Tiramisu Toffee Dessert

One of my favorite Italian desserts, is their popularly known as Italian pick-me-up.  This version of this delightful treat, adds in toffee candy, which adds crunchiness to the texture.

  • 1 pound cake (bread loaf size), cut into slices
  • 3/4 cup brewed coffee
  • 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 (1.4 ounce) bars chocolate covered English toffee, chopped

Slice cake, and arrange slices on bottom of a 11 x 7 inch rectangular baking dish.  You can cut cake slices as necessary to fit the bottom of the dish. Drizzle cake with coffee.

In a large bowl beat sugar, chocolate syrup, cream cheese and sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed until smooth. Add whipping cream.  Beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.  Spread mixture over cake. Sprinkle with chocolate-covered toffee candy.

Spread frosting over cake. Sprinkle with toffee candy. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to blend, and for dessert to set.

Myrl ... NO COOKING!  Even I should have time to do this one ... and if it looks anything like the picture .... I may have to put off at least one resolution until next year!

Hi Myrl, Naturally I am salivating. Looks and sounds superb. BTW, does this qualify to expand my meat and potatoes diet?

Oh Myrl, this is my favorite Italian dessert.  If it's on the menu, I'll be ordering it.  Who knew I could make it at home?

Toula - Try it. . .You'll like it!

Jack - It's one of those desserts you can whip up in no time. . .I have a grand-daughter, who at 8 months old, said her first words.  As she sat on her mother's lap being spoon fed Tira Missou, she grabbed at her mother's blouse, and excitedly, said, "Mom - Yum!"  She did this repeatedly, in between each and every bite.  We couldn't seem to spoon it into her mouth fast enough.

William - I am convinced that should you ever be at my house when I had family here, I'd sit you right next to my son-in-law, Steve.  He is a dedicated "meat and potatoes" guy too.  His a political conservative.  In fact one of my granddaughters has the middle name, "Reagan."  I think you guys would get along so well. . .He also likes Tira Missou:-)

Donna - There are a number of recipes for Tira Missou.  None of them need to be overly difficult.  This one is really easy.  Sometimes, I like to use a clear triffle bowl, and layer the cake and filling up.  This gives it a different appearance.

Marchel - This recipe will work really well for Bunko.  You can make it ahead, and keep it refrigerated up to 24 hours.

Lou - It is a favorite for a number of people.  Give it a try!  I hope you have a wonderful week!  And success to you as well.

Hi Myrl - That stuff is too sweet for me but when my wife orders it, I always have a small bite. Do you have any beer flavored Tiramisu recipes? :-)

John - "Beer flavored" Tiramisu, now there's an innovative thought:-)  Seriously however, I have a recipe that also incorporates Bailey's Irish Creme.
