Emelyn - Festival Italiano appears to be a VERY lively event. I'm especially fond of cultural events in my area. There is an Italian Picnic in Gold Country, and The Greek Food Festival at our convention center. There is also a Pacific Rim Festival, and many other events sponsored by various cultures in our community.
Hi Emelyn - it looks like a grand time was had by all! I can't wait for the weather to warm up and the festivals to begin!
Hello Emelyn, This was marvelous and thank you so much for the very entertaining slide show. We also have an Italiano Festival in our Little Italy District in downtown San Diego. The colors and festivities of these festivals no matter where they take place is certainly one of " Feel Good Days". Since very early times , communities and towns people the world over gather for festivals in markets squares or country sides. We have seem these festivals quite a lot with expanded entertainment and street painting art which has a wonderful history and has really arrived here in states. The street painting art in Italy is called Modonnari and in the Italian festivals is was a celebration with religious overtones. Modonarri ( contains the name , Madonna) since she had very high ranking in these festivals. I love the term and while not 100 % accurate of our street painting, it at least acknowledges how wonderfully talented the street painters have become and they deserve the recognition as such.
Myrl - "Lively" truly describes this event. I live about 8 blocks away from Belmar so I try to attend all of their events. The Festival Italiano is my favorite and I go both days!
Chris, the weather here today is 21 degrees....I too look forward to warmer days.
William - Thanks so much for your comments. I appreciate the history of the street painting....
