Saturday Blog: Manly MENu, Trifecta

Everyone remembers Bernie Mac.....what a funny guy and what a surprising loss.

We used to watch his show all the time and I told the kids that this is named after him.......but it isn'.

BROCCOLI MAC!

Broccoli

Campbells Cheese Soup

1/2 cup skim milk

2 tablespoons butter (Real Butter)

Cheez-its

2 boxes of Pasta

This is probably the easiest thing in the world to make, with a spin.....Steam the Broccoli.

Pick up fresh or frozen broccoli.  (I always buy fresh and lots of it)

Steam it!  I can't say enough how much healthier this method is, but since these MANLY MENu meals are carb and cheese heavy, that part doesn't really matter to much.

Prepare your favorite pasta, my kids love bow ties, so that is what we use, while that is boiling and the broccoli is steaming away, go ahead and cheat....open the two cans of Campbells Cheese soup.  It is rich and cheezy and difficult to get out of the can, but worth it.

Pour the milk and butter into a saucepan and warm to a very low boil, add the cheese and stir until all the cheese is melted and you have a stirable consistancy, reduce heat to lowest setting.

Add a pinch of Garlic salt and some black pepper as you stir.

Dice your steamed broccoli to the size and texture that you will enjoy, (hint: match the pasta) and put in a large mixing bowl, add the cheese melt mix and begin to stir.

Drain the pasta, add to the broccoli cheese mix and stir together.  Place into a large baking pan and then using the technique from last weeks MANly MENu, break up the cheez-its to a bread crumb size and sprinkle over the assemblage of deliciousness.

Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes at 350 and serve.

That sounds good, and just enough cheese to drown all the broccoli - Perfect!  BTW, I miss Bernie, too!

Gary - sounds interesting, but, while you are looking at the "healthy" aspect of it, try whole wheat pasta.

WE Love whole wheat pasta......

But it just makes no difference in this meal, or any of my Saturday meals....
