Kodak ESP Office 6150 Wireless Printerp

FINAL UPDATE: This printer is going in the trash.  In spite of Mark and John trying valiantly to help me (I can only say GOOD things about Kodak's customer service!!)  this printer still does not work. I do not have time to call the help desk all the time to make the thing print.  Every time I NEED it, it won't print.  It will not work with WIFI nor with the cable.  I don't use a printer ALL that much because I have the office printer at work that I use most of the time. I only need occasional use, not heavy duty mega printing, but when I NEED it, I REALLY NEED it.

I'm done.  I thank Kodak for relieving some of the money I put out for this piece of junk by sending me more ink and paper...but sorry.  Kodak needs to stay in the camera business, I think.  I'm not being mean, I am just trying to help others to not make the same mistake I did.

UPDATE 2/2/11:  Before reading the rest of my scathing and unpleasant review of this printer, I will say that I was contacted faithfully by Mark and by another gentleman named John from Kodak. I had issues (my own schedule) getting in touch with them in return but we finally connected today.  Kodak issued a very recent firmware update (in the past few days - since my initial complaint) and even after installing that, I still had issues.  John was able to walk me through the process to get the computer to recognize the printer as a wireless device again (it involved opening the printer's software and "adding" the printer again even though it was installed.)

The wireless function now seems to be working.  I will update again in a week or two.  For right now I have been mollified and the printer seems to be working.  We will see what else happens.  Thank you Mark and John for your commitment to solving my problem.  If after a while the printer is still functioning I will remove this blog and put a more favorable one up in its place.

----------------------------------------------------------

I can't say I wasn't warned. Some of my Facebook friends said they hated their Kodak printer, but I, the cynical Kodak Printer ESP Office 6150one, actually fell for the clever marketing campaign put out by Kodak and bought it - bought the pitch hook line and sinker, and bought the printer.

The wireless does NOT work - well it does.  But it takes a week for it to decide that it prints.  No joke. When I first hooked it up (YES my software is up to date, I just bought the darn thing and updated the software immediately) it worked fine....that day.  Because it was Christmas time and we had a plethora of boxes and crap all over, my husband destroyed the box after we were satisfied that it worked. (BIG MISTAKE!)  Then about three or four days later my daughter and I were tyring to print wirelessly and it wouldn't print.  "The printer is not responding."

So I had to hook it up to the USB - WHICH IS NOT WHAT I WANTED - I PAID FOR A WIRELESS PRINTER!

The printer itself says it is connected to WiFi.  When we try to print from our computers, we get "The printer is not responding." Check your connection and try again. Blah, blah, blah.  The Kodak website is as helpful as Microsoft help...which is WORTHLESS. So we give up and print with the USB cable. I am not happy.

Then, miraculously, ONE WEEK LATER, it spontaneously started printing all the documents my daughter had needed A WEEK AGO (and we already printed them out so now we had DOUBLE.)  OK, fine, I figured it got over its hiccup. Yay!

Today I need flyers for my open house in two hours. Guess what?  IT WON'T PRINT WIRELESSLY.  I need to go hook my computer up to the printer, again, so that I can print them.  Oh, guess what? Now it's out of ink.  It gave me a "warning" about 5 prints before it quit.

I hate this printer, I hate that I spent $130 of my HARD EARNED MONEY ON IT and now I can't even send it back as I don't have the boxes any more (when it initially worked I foolishly assumed it would always work.)

This review is going on Amazon.com to hopefully prevent others from making the same mistake I did.  What a waste of my money.  I'm using Windows 7, and everything else works fine with my WiFi.  Everything but this stupid printer, and from what I have seen, I am not the only person with this problem.

Now I have to hook up all the computers manually whenever we want to print.  Nice.  I COULD HAVE KEPT MY OLD PRINTER AND DONE THAT!  Plus I ran out of ink after only 200 prints or so.  Is that normal???!!!  Sure the ink is cheaper but it RUNS OUT FAST.

RUN from this machine!

Ugh I feel your pain. If it is any consolation I have had trouble with my HP's that are suppose to be wireless and sometimes are NOT.

I bought a new Cannon wireless printer and love it.  Since AR is a partner with Kodak perhaps someone in the know will contact you.

I agree it is very irritating when you don't get what you paid for. I have a Canon and HP printer and both work as advertised. Best of luck getting this resolved.

I like Cindy bought a Cannon wireless printer, can't reccomend it enough. Hooks up quickly and have absolutely no problems since purchasing 4 months ago.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

If you want a reliable printer, spend a few extra dollars on it.  I have had my Dell 3110cn since January, 2007, and have a print count just over 18,000.  It cost around $500 plus another $100 for a wireless card.  It works reliably and flawlessly, and the Dell support has been good.  I am on my second set of replacement toner cartridges, not bad considering 18,000 pages, and the current cartridges have 80% of their contents left.  After four years of reliable service, I couldn't ask for more.Calculated printing price has been under .09 per page, lower than the lowest estimates I've seen for an ink jet.

I believe that Dell's laser printers are re-labeled Brother printers, and the 3110cn is no longer sold by Dell.  They have a 2150cdn that is faster, has a built in duplexer, and is a little lower priced.  That's because the toner cartridges are lower capacity.  If I ever need to replace the 3110cn, the 2150cdn will be the replacement.

Thanks Karen,

Let's also see how your print usage goes too - the firmware update also has some improvements to the way the ink is distributed I believe.

Can you email me a copy of the brochure you were printing where you got the 200 prints?  I'd like to run it internally on my 6150 and see what I get for yield - thank you!
