An Open Letter to Far Too Many Listing Agents

By
Real Estate Agent with 405home @ ERA Courtyard 148333

Dear Miss List Agent, ever wonder why your listings don't sell?

Here's a clue: Your office number is the only one listed and your office hours are M-F 9 to 5, and you don't have an answering service, and you don't use showing assist, and you clearly don't check your office voicemail, thus making it physically impossible for other agents to get in touch with you to set up showings.

Can't sell it if we can't show it! I wonder if your client knows what a disadvantage you've put them at.

Ryan - 100% Agree! Yet these are the same agents telling anyone who will listen how good they are.

Co-operation is the name of the game!  ...and, most Realtors are more than happy to make every showing easy!  Now about those buyers agents who stand-up the appointment, or don't provide business cards for follow-up & feedback... Like I said - co-operation is a team sport!  Cheers, Wendy Betts - Vancouver BC

Excellant Ryan - especially the picture.

Our office is the only one in the area open on Sunday. How to companies expect to get customers on the weekend when their office is closed?

One company up here doesn't have an office. Their agents work out of their homes and calls are routed through their national switchboard and then sent to the agent. That can't work real well can it?

By the way - Seattle is going to get another basketball team. The Supersonics will be back!

Ask Me Why I'm Different!

Can't tell you how many times I've called to show a newly renovated home(meaning that it is owned by investors/vacant) and the listing agent didn't bother to call me back to confirm the showing. Of course, the vacant listing would have a lockbox with a CBS code....which I've figured out is typically the listing agent's phone number...but still. I'm with you...WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?

Peter & Kathy, you're right. Thanks for your comments.

Wendy, you're right on the money. It goes both ways. I'm a listing agent myself, and covering for my buyers agent this weekend, so I'm grossly reminded of how bad it can be on both sides. I guess as a listing agent it frustrates me more to see sellers put at such a disadvantage by agents who simply shouldn't be taking listings.

Art, it's not even legal here for a brokerage not to have a physical location. That would probably drive me nuts. As for the Sonics, I hope you're right. I have a feeling that if it happened, they'd get more support now than they did before :)

Donna, it can drive you to drink. I'm considering just showing also. Hate to do so without the go-ahead from the agent though.
