The LandingsA bit of good news came out of a recent survey conducted by the National Association of Realtors.  It seems that in spite of the high level of economic distress and the mess in the real estate market, most home owners as well as renters agree that owning a home is a smart decision.  It makes more sense to own a home, according to 95% of owners and 72% of renters.

It appears that
The American Dream is alive and well!

Some interesting differences between home owners and renters were revealed in the survey.  More than half of the home owners are very or extremely satisfied with the overall quality of their family life.  Of the renters, only one-third consider themselves very or extremely satisfied.

You can access the American Attitudes About Home Ownership survey results here.

First off let me say hi!  I grew up in Sandpoint and still come back over to visit family a couple times a year.

On the subject of your post, from talking to my clients it is definitely still all about having a place of their own.  The ones that are buying now and not doing it because they want to make money, but because they want 'their space' that they can have and call home.

All things being equal, it always makes sense to build equity in your own home vs paying someone else's mortgage.  Good post Janna.
