Active Rain -- newbie tips #2-- subscribe to a blog

When someone is new to Active Rain, they may be looking for a starting point. Here are some quick suggestions

  • Log in every day (100 points). Blog daily (200 points each) Comment (25 points each).  Ten comments per day. Re blog (25 points). Invite others and get points from their activity. Points are given for updating your profile.
  • Like the name Active Rain says -- get Active. To learn more, read the manual.
  • Look in groups. Find some groups that interest you and join. Read, comment and post to those groups. Subscribe to blogs that you enjoy reading.
  • Not sure how to do something? Go to the "search" link at the top, type in a question or phrase and you will find a blog about it. Also look at the FAQ link at the bottom of the page. As you progress, it will get easier.

I have put together a short video on how to subscribe to a blog.. When you find a blogger that you enjoy reading or you find informative, you can subscribe to their blog.

Kathy, occassional reminders do help.

Toni, doing more than ten comments a day will not get you more points, but the whole point of commenting is to build relationships. Comment away.

Tammy, thank you for the vote of confidence. I am just sharing what I have learned for FREE in Active Rain. Some of it I have learned from you as well. I remember being a "lost" newbie.

John, I have a few more coming.

Craig,

I've been here a couple of years.

Need to re visit some of the basics.

Re-Blog?

Not really sure how that works.

Using someone elses work, but giving them credit?

Ray and Karen, if there is a small green "reblog" button in the upper right hand corner of a post, you can click on that and it will open in a new window. It will give credit to the original writer and you can insert some text as to why you felt it was worth sharing. Maybe add some thoughts to the original content and posting to groups that the original writer didn't post to.

Thanks for the tips.  As a newbie, I need all the help I can get.  What exactly does it mean to invite others? Is that inviting people you know to join active rain and then if they join you get their points?  Can someone join today without a monthly payment like in the past? Thanks.

Brad, yes invite others to join Active Rain. You will get some points from their activity. As for the monthly payment......I don't see how to avoid that.

Fred, I am still learning a lot from the people here on Active Rain. Great community.

John, the points are a side bonus. Blogging to get exposure and people coming to you is what it is about. Write local posts. Look like the expert and people will come to you.

Marc, I read my subscriptions regularly but on occasion I will go into another group that I am not familiar with just to read something new and different.

Hi Craig~ This is just what I was looking for!  Just re-blogged!  I would love to learn how to do a similar video.  How do you do that?

Donna, when I did those videos, I used the free trial version of snag it. It is a great program for screen capture and video. Currently I am using Jing for screen capture as well as the snipping tools in Microsoft. Jing does offer an upgraded version that will allow for videos.                Thank you for the re-blog.

Thanks Craig!  Free is good, but I don't want to pay for anything.  I've got a webcam, but of course, that will show me, not the screen!

Donna, FREE is always good. I have learned so much here in Active Rain for free. It is unbeatable. You can download the Snag-it trial version. It's free for thirty days. During that time, you can make as many videos as you want and post them to You Tube.
