Exotic bloom brightens up another dreary Speechless Sunday

Once again, I went back to my vacation photos for relief from the gloomy weather. This time, I found an orchid from the fantastic Finca Dracula orchid gardens in Cerro Punta, Panama. I've never seen so many incredible orchids as they have there. This was one of the more colorful ones in bloom, and larger. Some of the orchids have blooms no larger than a baby's fingernail. I would love to go back for another visit during the rainy season and see what else is blooming there. Meanwhile, I will pore over my vacation photos.

Thanks for stopping by, everyone! Orchids are very intriguing. They are not too hard to grow inside--if you have the perfect combination of temperature, light, and humidity.

We think of orchids as being rare, but there are several thousand species and they are found pretty much everywhere. I can't grow them in my house, though, because Miles the cat would eat them.
