Could you use another hour in the day?

The Nines Team in Lodi

So what would I do if I had an extra hour everyday … you know a 25 hour day?  I guess it would depend where the extra hour was located!

How many times have we heard at the end of the day … “I’m almost done … I just need another hour?”  How many times have we thought … “I’m so tired … I just need another hour?”

The Nines Team in Lodi

OK, maybe I’m the only one that says or thinks this … but for me it seems to ring true and does so frequently!  So I started to look at my time planning … or in some case the lack of time planning.  And I noticed that I would reduce some of my non-productive work time by as little as 5 minutes … I could add an extra hour to my day … well not actually an extra hour, but the use of an extra hour!

So instead of stressing over deadlines that seem to approach all to fast … I’m going to try and start a little earlier … there’s just no reason for the self-inflicted stress!

If I had another hour in the day I could get a lot more done. I could get up earlier, but then the other 24 hours in the day wouldn't be so productive because I would be so tired! I think adequate sleep is important.

No. I have to stop sometime. If I had more hours I would never sleep!  :-)

I'm quite certain I spend far to much time that is not productive.  When I'm on "going on vacation time" I always seem to get everything done, since there is no time to do anything else

I believe there will always be things to do regardless of how much time we have or dont have.

I dont worry about it.  It will get done eventually what's important is to decide what you'll do when.

I have a feeling if we really had that extra hour in a day, we would probably be in the same situation we normally are.  It wouldn't make a difference except for that first day.  There is one day a year around here that we get the pseudo "25 hour" day.  (the first day when the clock falls backwards).  I like your idea of just planning better, start your thing ahead of time.

I think if anyone had an extra hour per day they would probably find a way to stretchthere day out so it fits into 25 hours instead of 24. If I want more time I try to be more productive. Sometimes this works, and sometimes it doesn't, but you have to know your limits.

Patrick - I suspect that you're right ... folks just seem to stretch finite amounts of work into whatever time is available ...

Jack - A deadline is like the Sword of Damocles hanging over my head held by the single hair from a horses tail.  Rather than procrastinate I want to get done as soon as possible.  Better time management would get me out from under that sword, that is for sure.  Thanks for the blog.

Self-inflicted stress.....Oh I'm so good at it!  My neck and lower back are just screaming do MORE!  Get this off of your plate!  But, alas, I just want to quiet that voice.  Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is the getting away from deadlines.  Just calm the voice.  Not everything is urgent.
