When searching for homes, we have an affinity to search the Minnesota MLS or maybe we look into narrowing our search to a specific area such as Shakopee Real Estate or other surrounding suburbs. However, as we break down our home search we still are obsessive, just like those who watch the series The Bachelor. We inconvenience ourselves and rearrange schedules for fear of missing a drama filled episode, just as we stress and comb over the Minneapolis MLS not to miss out on the perfect home. As odd of a “Real Estate” topic this may be, it does have many similarities to the popular reality TV show. You see a contestant (picture perfect pretend relationship) and want those same experience. EVERYONE is willing to give advice. Just like relationships, friends, family, co-workers and plenty of internet sites to search, offer their opinions. With home purchases, the most willing to give advice are those who have just purchased a home (previous contestants) My wife and I watch this show year after year with DRAMA entwined as I make entertaining comments to myself to get my laughter in. Today in the real estate market there is plenty of drama as short sales and foreclosures can put many curves and wrinkles in transactions.
The Bachelor requires a time commitment to get to know all the contestants (homes you are searching). Qualities or features you would ideally like to have become more prevalent the more homes you see. As you understand the market you better understand what your likes and dislikes are and you adjust your search. Like the Bachelor, you as the buyer have many choices. Interest rates are low, the number of listings on the MLS is high and some sellers are desperate (not that I am saying anyone on the Bachelor is). I am thoroughly entertained thought with the Bachelors escapades. I believe that attitude is paramount, as you need an open mind. Seriously if I had to sit there and listen to woman after woman cry because some other girl in the house hurt her feelings I would go INSANE! Look at the potential of a home, but know a train wreck when you see one. Sometimes the foundation just might be crumbing, and no matter how cosmetically appealing the home is (note Bachelor contestants makeup), it’s just not worth saving. We could all pick the top five girls coming out of the limo, day one. Just as in real estate I feel buyer can do the same but the “what if” factor plays in and they want to see ALL the homes on the market. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but using a local Realtor can help. I have seen clients search for homes and ultimately come back to the very first home they viewed. Sellers (contestants) put their best foot forward and hide the details that come out after you live in the home a while and truly get to know. We need knowledge and experience to see past these obstacles sometimes a third party opinion (inspector) Finally we have found “The One” after narrowing down our search in hopes of growing our family and living happily ever after. Sometimes however, just like the Bachelor, we are there for a few years and trade in for a newer model.
