Lots of new long awaited white fluffy snow blanketed Aroostook County last Friday and more predicted this week is a good thing for the World Cup Biathlon venues of Presque Isle, Fort Kent ME.
Hundreds of world class, Olympic level of the best on the planet atheletes, their families, coaches, trainers and tons of press are coming to Aroostook County, Northern Maine.First stop February 4-6 in Presque Isle Maine. Then on to Fort Kent in St John River Valley at the very top, the crown of Maine for Feb 10-13 World Cup Biathlon winter competition. In this latter winter sports competition, the four corners of the town of Fort Kent Maine will be used for parking.
Shuttle buses will run loops to and from 10th Mountain Lodge to make attending the World Cup Biathlon action even easier for spectators and well wishers. Learn more about the two Maine of the eight World Cup Biathlon winter competition sites.
Northern Maine is a mixture of rich Franco American heritage. And besides the Maine winter games, cultural, entertainment including musicial events will be part of the Chateaux due Festival ice structure.
At our local Houlton Maine Rotary Club meeting a few weeks back, an excited Steve Towle, a fellow Presque Isle REALTOR brought the group up to speed with a slide show and talk on the event. The event costs more than a million dollars to put on a World Cup Biathlon competition Towle told Houlton Rotarians. The events in Presque Isle, Fort Kent Maine are estimated to have over 80 milllion European viewers.
Over half the event cost is shouldered by the television crews beaming it back to their respective countries where the Biathlon is one big event.
Along the lines of our excitement over the Super Bowl for football, World Series for baseball. Towle remarked in Germany the World Cup Biathlon is a huge event followed with keen interest around the country.In a recent Eurpoean vacation, in London England especially the intense rivalry between soccer teams was so obvious with the clothing, chatter at local eateries and corner pubs.
We picked the 2010 cup winner soccer team Chelsea, last year's championship best of the bunch in the events we watched with hollering, cheering, very rowdy game watchers, loyal supporters.
