The Nines Team in Lodi

The Nines Team in LodiWind Chill of minus anything is COLD!  I remember years ago when this California born and bred man moved to North Carolina.  The term "wind chill" meant absolutely nothing to me.  At that time in my life, I was pretty much a home worker ... and one day, my first winter, I heard that the wind chill was "minus ten."  OK .. so what.  My condo was over the garage ... and as with many Western North Carolina small building plan, the access was outside, off the deck.  I had left some papers in the car, so I thought I'd just run down and get them.

I've been pretty much a Hawaiian shirt kind of guy most of my adult life ... even in North Carolina.  My motto was "Paradise is where you find it ..."  So in my Hawaiian shirt, I stepped out the door took two steps and learned what wind chill was!

It's hard for me to even fathom the Minus 40 wind chills we've been reading about in the papers and online.  Last week I was complaining about the chill in the air ... at a round 45 ... ABOVE!

So for all my ActiveRain friends ... sorry ... I guess I just lost perspective!  But I understand there is reason to be of good cheer ... highs in the teens are due by Wednesday!

I'd forgotten about global warming. Although I have to say I don't see evidence of it. I'm freezing all the time. I'd love to move to California.

The temp. outside my house this morning was minus 14 and the high for the day never reached 17. I don’t know what the wind chill was cause once it gets this cold it just doesn’t seem to matter any more. I’m ready for summer.

Jack - well, coming from New England I know all about them, and I don't miss that aspect of winter, nor the snow. I also spent 2 years in MN - one day the wind child was almost 75 below, and that same day in International Falls, one of the coldest places in teh US, it was 100 below - they has frost on the interior of many homes.

I'll take the chilly nights here in SoCal in the 40s or high 30s in winter any day. :)

I always say snow is for resorts.  When I first moved here I had a down coat from head to toe, and  a fur hat and boots, and mittens.  Now I put on a light sweater and I don't wear sandles after November.........hehe

Jack, we are definitely spoiled in California when it comes to weather.  I like looking at the snow on the mountain tops.

Jack... Are you wearing thermal underwear or something to keep you warm under your hawaiian shirt?  I hope so :)

Christina ... no, I think it's called scotch! (LOL)  But that's why they invented jackets ... for outside!  In doors - it's almost always warmer than I'd prefer, so other folks are comfortable ... so tropicals are fine!

I worked with a client in 2002 who was coming from the Lake Tahoe area... they get snow!  He and his wife had gone to school in San Diego.   I remember him shivering one day and saying he thought it was going to snow....  it was in the mid 40s.  It was wet and our cold is cold.

Maureen - I remember when I was about 10 years old ... visiting family in Ohio for the first time around Christmas.  I saw icicles and was in wonder ... how could you get them to freeze like that.  In fairness I also saw wheat fields and thought they were spaghetti plants!  Duh ... can you say ... "City Kid?"

I am also a native Californian.  I left for ten years.  3 in Atlanta and 7 in Washington DC.  Atlanta was fine, but DC took the life out of me with those cold winters.  I had to restrain myself from kissing the ground when I got back to California.

Tni ... It's OK to kiss the ground ... and you can even drink the water!  I for one am glad you're back in California ... as for living out-of-stste ... I only managed 9 years!  (3 in Asheville - 3 in Zurich - and 3 in Las Vegas) ... (in round numbers ...)
