Milestone: Zillow Hits 10,000 Reviews Online

Zillow Agent Reviews and Endorsements.  The ultimate goal in adding this social media aspect to Zillow, was to aide consumers in the agent selection process based on past client endorsements and reviews.

The system was launched in late December, and agents could ask their clients to review them through anelizabeth weintraub invitation system built into the platform.

Once we had a couple of thousand reviews, the review system launched publicly all over the site.  Now reviews can be found in places like ajacent to property search results or you can sort by them in the DirectoryThis immediately tilted more contacts in the direction of those who had past client endorsements.  This also bought the review system to the attention of our users, so non-solicited reviews of agents started pouring in - and an overwhelming majority of reviews were very positive and informative!

We've recently hit another milestone with system and now have over10,000 reviews on the site! This means it is becoming an incredibly rich system in helping people with the agent selection process.

If this is the first time hearing of the system, this post will get you up to speed

brad andersohnOr even better, the one and only Brad Andersohn will be doing a LIVE WEBINAR on JANUARY 28th to walk you through the system!!  Visit www.ZillowAcademy.com to register and get more information.

This is an interesting feature that Zillow has added but it causes me concerns just as Yelp and other online rating systems have.  A person can post a rating without having been a client (unless the invitation policy prevents that).  If the reviews are posted without invitations at some point, that would be a concern.  I'm also concerned that it is biased to agents who do a lot of volume or have been in the business a long time with many clients.

An agent who has been in business 3-4 years, with an excellent track record, might not be able to keep up with an agent in the business 20 years with a mediocre record but who cherry-picks the reviews.

I'm not trying to be negative but I always find these systems a little less than ideal.  My ratings on many sites are great but I still think the systems need work.

Congratulations! Zillow's app compatibility with the iPad and other mobile devices ensures that it will continue to have this sort of success. It seems the company is fully aware of what agents, as well as homeowners, want and need from the company.

I've got to agree with some of Bryan's concerns, but do think that this is an awesome step forward for Zillow!

I love the Zillow reviews, it is a great way for people to review you and find out about the quality of your work.

Bryan (13) and Aaron (15) - Without all the details of the system (which I didn't give here, please click on the first link of the post or attend Brad's session) I can totally see why this would be a concern.  But two big roadblocks there to fraudulent use- 1) EVERY review is hand read by a person and 2) the reviewer must supply the address you the agent assisted them with.  There are some other more technical precautions, but these two are the big catch alls.

Ilyce (14) - Thanks for the comment.  Mobile is blowing my mind on how much people are using the various platforms.  6 houses are viewed on a Zillow mobile platform every second.  How crazy is that!

Bryant (17) - I hope so too! :)

I don't see reviews being a major influencer of consumer's choice of agents right now. There is so much other content out there (blogs, search pages, photos, listings, etc.) that will shape their decisions, in many cases without even visiting Zillow.

Darn it I missed teh Academy. Anyway I signed up for some ads, gosh not much left. Have not been able to work out the buyer ads, and of course on Sunday the office is closed. I'll try to get hold of someone tomorrow, but I am hopeful to snag some more deals from it. I have to say I have been skeptical but I'll give it a try, shame my areas was sold-oh welll, they say you snooze you lose!

Update: Approximatley a month later, we now have 22,000 reveiws on the site.  Interestingly we are starting to see trends that say agents with reveiws get more leads than those who don't. When specifically looking at our Premier Advertisers (to keep an apples to apples comparison) - agents with 5+ reviews 150% more than those with zero.
