Does your vocabulary need an overhaul?

Real Estate Agent with Pine Knoll Shores Realty 252-422-9000 NC 166249

Does your vocabulary need an overhaul?

Do you use the same words too often?  I do.  Everything is "Awesome".  And there are "Lots" of things around me.  Those are my two most overused words.  I am making a commitment right now to pay attention to the words I use.

My awesome incredible, brilliant nephew Jimmy, a college English professor, offers challenges a lot frequently that make all of us work harder on finding different ways to say things.

Today the word to watch is "Awesome".  So if you have lots of inventory and they all have lots of amenities and awesome views in awesome locations perhaps you might want to consider how boring and common that sounds since lots of awesome REALTORS are saying the same thing.

My daughter has forbidden the use of "duh" in her house since her two boys had gotten into the habit of using "duh" as the answer to everything.  Now they have to stop and think of different ways to express themselves.  They're 5 and 7.  They're learning, and we can too.  The English language is an awesome  incredible tool with lots of many options.  Think before you speak, (or write) and make your language stand out.

Suddenly I have "a variety of inventory in some incredible locations.  Some have breathtaking views and spectacular amenities." Use some new words today.  I dare you!

Awesome thoughts.  We use the word a day dictionary.  Sometimes it is an old English word that we have problems using in conversation, other times it is a word we just need to go back to using.  Great post.

Folks tend to repeatedly use words or phrases with which they are comfortable and "self identify" with their use.

We all do it.  It's fun and harmless.

I don't believe I ever use awesome. I guess I have an awesome vocabulary! Actually awesome is so overused I think it has lost its "awesome-ness!"

Hey Marian.  How true!  We all seem to find some "comfort" words that we use to often.  I find myself getting stuck in the awesome mode. Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to make a conscience effort to expand my vocabulary by starting to use more "not so familiar" adverbs and adjectives. DJ

I totally never use a word too often, but I totally agree that Awesome is totally over-used!  Okay, so maybe I totally over-use the word totally, but not in describing my listings...They are all fabulous with Gorgeous views, and impeccable.  Oh, and as hard as it is to admit, I use "Groovy" in my everyday talk.

Totally Awesome Post!  Right On!

Laura, Sweetable is a new one to me. I guess that's because you made it up.  LOL  I'm still struggling with other words to use instead of lot but at least I'm aware.  Thanks for stopping by.

Peggy, I think awesome is a splendid word but when we use it to describe everything it loses some of it's oomph!

Great, awesome post!  LOL!  No really it is.  I suggested it.  It is so easy to do and say the same old things over and over.  I am going to work on this as well.

Yes, I have to agree, awesome is an overworked word and I do not use it in every day speech. I look at it this way, the only one who is awesome and does awesome works is God. Everything else on this plane of existence pales in comparison...

There are lots of words that we all overuse.  I have a tendency to start using words that my clients use...sometimes that a good thing and sometimes not so much.

Great point, Marian. We should pull up our thesaurus much more often. Suggested and re-blogged.

Two agents in town used to end the description for almost every listing with, 'very nice, indeed.' While it would give us a chuckle, it reached the point whereit became almost like a tag line.
