Stop Saying You Can Get Better Search Engine Placement for Me

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Second Self Virtual Assistance

I have recently received a ton of unsolicited emails addressed to "undisclosed recipients" telling me that while they really like the way my website is set up, I could get a lot more traffic and visibility if I just let them take over my search engine optimizationStop telling me you can get me better search engine placement!  I already have 3 positions filled on the first page of Google, Yahoo! and Bing. And, I did this myself through organic placement.
Stop Saying You Can Get Better Search Engine Placement for Me!
Please allow me to step up on my soapbox for a moment.  (Thank you.)

People!

  • Do NOT send a blast email addressed to "Undisclosed Recipients" or any other generalized topic. - We know you are lumping us into a category with a lot of other people hoping that one of us will contact you.
  • Do NOT claim to know about something you don't know. - You're just hurting your own reputation. You may be able to get a client but you will never keep them.
  • Do NOT send out a blast email that is not targeted to the correct demographic.  - You're wasting your time and mine. I don't need your service and will not contact you!
  • Do NOT send out a blast email without doing your homework first. - Telling someone you have done something you obviously haven't done - like checking my current search engine ranking - does not make you look credible.  I WILL NOT contact you!
  • Do NOT send out a blast email without your contact information. -  Since there is no federally mandated "Unsubscribe" on your email, I will just block you.

I suspect these "experts" have attended an online seminar or webinar somewhere.  They were probably told how easy the program was to use, that they would make tons of money "while they sleep" and that people would jump at the chance to work with them.

There is no silver bullet when it comes to marketing - email or otherwise. It takes homework, hard work, a strategy and honest-to-goodness expertise.

I'll step down off my soapbox now.  You may now step up to my soapbox to comment.   :)

Hi Art - I'm as happy as anyone to take someone's money.  Afterall, I do need to make a living.  BUT, I don't make claims that aren't true.  Some people sell their soles - very cheaply - for a buck.  Thanks for commenting.

Capitalism is alive and well online too.  It's buyer beware of e-mail solicitations like the one you received.  I've been getting good at hitting the delete key within seconds of opening e-mails like the one you describe.

Hi Rick - I don't mind being solicited.  I'd just like for it to be something legitimate.  I'm wearing out my DELETE button!  :)

Hi Malcomb - Better than 3 positions on page 1 of Google?  Do you also have a bridge to sell me?  :)

For the right price, I can get you even higher than the first 3 listings, Pamela (it's called PPC).  These emails remind me of multi-level marketing.  Maybe they watched those latenight informercials about Millionaire Secrets (how to make money in your sleep) or answered one of those "Make $1000/hr from home!" ads that you see pop up on social media.

Ha ha - I like Heather's comment.  I think I'll up here on that bet!! LOL.  These folks have been hitting hard since early Jan but they don't get anywhere.  Doubtful if they know what we know - nor do they actually take the time to see who they're trying to sell something too. If they did - they'd take a different approach.

Hi Heather - Higher than the first 3 listings?  And, I can tell you that I have the secret of losing 100 pounds in a month. (No, I can't.)  But these guys can't do what they're saying they can do either.

Hi Anna - What a colossal waste of time.  Wonder how much they paid for the program that sold them this load of c#*p.

Pamela,

You are quite right. I receive at least one of these per week, and they are all the same. I just delete them without a response.

Hi Brian - I had to laugh when I originally posted this blog.  Afterward, I went in to check my email and, yep, there they were - 2 more of these identical emails. I've gotten one already this morning.  Reminds me of the chain letter that used to go around- just send the sender $1 and have each person on the list send $1 and on and on and on.  Somehow, you were supposed to end up with over $10,000.  If only. . . .

I agree-sometiems I get so frustrated and know I should not reply, but do anyway. I tell them I obviously don't need better SEO because you found me.

Hi Diane - I had a client I did search engine optimization for who got a call from an SEO "expert" who started telling her he could get her better rankings in GA - she's in AZ.  My response to these characters is to send them the link to this post - 'nuff said.  They never respond after that.
