this is a great post to help all those buyers who did cash in on the $8,000 tax credit last year. there are some live links to more info and to forms needed to collect the credit, if you haven't done so already! Thanks Guy for the tips!
So you bought a home last year and qualified for the home buyers tax credit? Congratulations.
Have you received the benefit yet. What you should have done was to make an amendment of your 2009 tax return and you would have received the credit by now.
However If you did not do that, there is still time. But you have to act now. You will need to make your case on your 2010 tax return. For this you will need the HUD1 form that you signed at closing to prove you bought a home.
If you don’t do it on this years form you will lose out on the credit that is owed to you. For more details see the NAR site
