Tom, Nice short video. It sure would have been a easy fix four years ago. But now? Not so much...

Tom~ Is this an example of dry rot or of water damage? This looks like it was a leaking downspout. Your "stitch in time" point is well made!
Ahh, something pretty easy to have taken care of and now a major deal.

Paul, the first time out I tried to explain the potential future problem, they weren't convinced. Four years later, I forgot that I had looked at that specific unit until I review some old digital photos. I was glad to get the progression on video.
Thanks!
Liz,
Truth be told, it was both water damage AND dry rot. It was pretty extensive inside the siding.
That's an excellent photo of then and now. I wish I could make a "this is what your damage may look like in 4 years" digitally enhanced photo and show to each customer.
I've had lots of folks tell me that the damage isn't that bad and they'll just wait. I tell them I don't think that's a good idea, but I can't make them do it!
I did have one client that we estimated replacing a back french door, with one fixed leaf and one operable. They had to wait 2 more years, and got major water damage to the triple band below in the meantime. It was NOT less expensive at that time, that's for sure.
Good post!
