8:00am, Sunday morning, the sun is out, lovely time to walk Seward Park! Pepper is more than ready for the exercise, especially for sniffing out "pee-mail" along the trail.
With a 2.4 mile long trail bordering the lake and 120 acres of old growth forest to enjoy, it's a perfect way to get in touch with your inner Zen!
Seward Park occupies Bailey Peninsula, which protrudes like a hook onto Lake Washington in South Seattle. After parking in one of the upper lots, we walked down to the paved perimeter trail which loops around. Early morning hours are best, as the water is calm and the breeze gentle, it tends to be less crowded.
Can't wait till the city closes this section of Lk Washington Blvd for bicycle days in the summer! We caught a gorgeous display of Mt Rainier and watched an eagle flying over the lake. Several boats (and yatchs) float on shimmering water. There are gravel beaches, sandy beaches, fishing docks, tennis courts, a recently redesigned children's play area and great pinic shelters along the trail.
At the end of the loop, we walked by the Ceramic Studio (a must stop around Christmas time), then visited the Environmental & Audubon Center which used to be an inn. Finally we hiked up the not-to-be-missed "secret" Native Garden behind the building. Then back to the car, relaxed and thankful for such a wonderful sanctuary near by!
