Tahoe Boat ParadeAfter a tense week following the Angora fire, this July Fourth was a welcomed diversion. Most communities celebrated scheduled events, and visitors who traveled to the Lake and contributed to the tourist economy were welcomed with open arms. An estimated 10,000 people were drawn to the lake to join the festivities which lasted for several days.

Communities around the began the celebration early. Squaw Valley hosted a multi-day circus with sky jump bungee and live shows in a circus ring. Truckee and Incline had parades with colorful floats, and Incline Village even hosted a boat parade with all watercraft decorated in red, white and blue. Uncle Sam even made an appearance wake surfing in top hat and tails- a real crowd pleaser!
Kings Beach kicked off fireworks on Tuesday night, with viewers taking in the spectacle by boat, beach and atop the fire lookout at Brockway. Squaw also hosted a laser lights show that evening instead of fireworks, with concerns of fire danger. Incline Village boasted one of the best displays of fireworks ever, drawing a huge crowd on the beach, on the water, and many watching from homes with vantage points over the lake. Tahoe City, Truckee, and South Lake Tahoe all hosted fireworks on the fourth. South Lake’s “Lights on the Lake” claims the largest sychronized display west of the Mississippi. Fireworks continued onto the 5th of July, with a display from Homewood on the west shore.
