In the little time I’ve been in real estate, my perceptions of the industry have changed drastically.  My first instinct when entering the world of real estate in 2010 was to appeal to clients by showing off my newly whitened teeth and my four-door luxury sedan.  This is what they want right?  They want to be driven around in a nice car, with a smiling agent happily complying with their ever wish, right?

While this may not be wrong, it certainly isn’t the only piece to the puzzle I now realize.  Through the eyes of my clients, everything was going great…at first.  However, on the back end, I was shuffling through MLS listings, approval letters and contracts, working 40 hours a week for two clients while in school!  I had no system! 

When a client would call and ask me to look at a specific document or fax something, it took me longer to find than it took to draft a new copy. 

I lost two clients around the same time, two months in, 10 showings down and hundreds of hours invested.  Truth be told, my clients didn’t dislike me or want to work with another agent--they had to! 

When most people make the largest investment of lives, they want to make that decision with someone who was organized and efficient. 

Driving to pick up contracts from your office, deciphering ink blotted faxes, and flipping through hundreds of documents at a time is caveman talk!  With the help of a few good mentors and some cutting edge technology, I managed to pick myself up and get back in the game.

I quickly found out that by utilizing simple tools, my system could be easily put into place, leading to better service for my clients and a bigger check for myself.  Some great tools include the dropbox’s of the world, Gmail to stream your accounts and DotLoop to stay organized, quickly capture electronic signatures, send and track contracts.

 Finally, if you are still buying ink and toner…STOP!

I must agree on having systems in place!!  And, I can't wait to upgrade my 1997 Jeep after a few more closings this year!!
