How to get ready for a showing appointment in this winter weather

If your home is on the market now,  you have had to cope with many snow storms; so it is a challengeSnow in drive getting it ready for showing.   I am not talking about the inside, but rather the outside so that potential buyers and their agents can make it to the front door safely.

Here are some things you must do

  • Clean the driveway and put down salt or other products to melt the ice.
  • Clean the walkway and also apply product to melt ice.
  • If you have a porch make  sure that is also clean.
  • Try to remove as many of the icicles as you can since these could cause harm,
  • If for any reason you can't get these task done, it would be better to cancel the appointment.
  • Provide shoe covers so that the snow and salt is not tracked into the house.
  • Make sure the inside is nice and warm.  If you have a fireplace light a fire that would be a nice touch.

Nothing says welcome home like a warm fireplace on a cold day.  I hope your weather turns around soon.

Jennifer, great points!!!  I am glad I don't have to go through that, instead I go before a showing appointment to open all the blinds to let the sun in.  Stay warm, it is countdown to spring pretty soon.

The snow must really create some major challenges, you have some great ideas.  I can only imagine how hard it is to inspect the outside of a home with all the snow

Jennifer, great tips! When I call to check availabiltiy with agents I am asking them if the driveway is plowed, if the walkways are ready.... they are a bit surprised sometimes but I think it might spur them to make that phone call to sellers.... reminding them of these very things.

Jennifer, great advice, it is hard when we have so many bank owned, short sale vacant homes here.

Some give a budget for plowing and some don't. You never know.

Jennifer - your tips seem logical and a no-brainer, it's great that you are reminding sellers what they need to do to get their property SOLD!

Hi Jennifer.  Of course I don't have to do those things but I do enjoy snow scenes such as the one in your post.  It's easy to miss what one doesn't have.

Juli a fire is a delight on a cold day.

Ellie I can't wait for spring to see all the damage done by the deer.  I watch them from a window eating anything in sight.  It must be a hard for them this winter.  Anyway I will just plant new plants:)

Brian It is a big challenge.  I am hoping February and March will be kinder.

Gary the salt can be really bad for the flooring.   I took a listing today and the homeowner said he had some ready.

Jennifer, Good advice! I just realized that we sold 4 different houses when we lived in the cold north and we never sold one in the winter months.  We were blessed that they all sold fast.
