Steps Toward AchievementIn many areas of our business and personal lives we have times, events, or a day where you might consider it a "setback" toward what you are trying to achieve, your goal. Whether in a negotiation, a path to achievement, a strong committed desire, sometimes you are in that "bummer" phase. It amazes me how emotionally upset people get mired in the here and now of the short view that is "today" when they need to focus on the prize, the LONG TERM. Must come from our want everything NOW mentality we seem to have. But often you lose battles along the way, but ultimately with vision, win the war. You GET where you want to be, FINALLY fitting all the pieces that WORK in place. If the pieces NEVER fit you were not meant to get there, but if they do, CONGRATULATIONS.

You are where you wanted to get to.

A lost battle or two is to be expected. Like clients saying no if you shut-up and listen you'll often learn how to correct the problem. "...ultimately with vision, win the war. You GET where you want to be, FINALLY fitting all the pieces that WORK in place."

I'm not so sure I agree with your conclusion. If the pices don't fit, but the goal was worthy, perhaps you were using the wrong pices. Or, perhaps you were talking when you should have been listening.

Hi Gary, Another great presentation with a remarkable message. Obstacles are a normal encounter in the journey but they need not change the course, simply deal with it and keep moving on. Sometimes the obstacles end up being a positive new experience and not the set back we thought when we encountered them. I like this collection of photos and I purchased many them. In their simplicity they make such powerful statements  and truly enhance the message.

Gary, this post is so right on time for me right now.  I sure have quite a few setbacks lately, it does affect me some. It is hard to focus sometimes, but this reminds me what I am doing right now is for the long haul, I do that and know that all the time, and i just need to remember that!

Oh, as I like to say "give the baby the bottle!"  Sometimes it's okay to "lose" in the sake of the overall GOAL!!  Well said Gary, and very timely for me.  Tomorrow I have a little battle that I'm going to give a baby their bottle!!
