What your little dog "Fido" can teach you about sales!!

What your little dog "Fido" can teach you about sales!!

Life as a Realtor and life in general tend to be a continuos struggle for consistency:

We expect to be be greeted by our spouse or other family members with smiles and good news when we arrive home but it doesn't always happen.

We'd like to think that all of our past clients are thinking of us and will call us when it comes time to list their home or to give us a referral but that doesn't always happen.

We'd like to be in great contact with our family and friends but with leading a busy Realtor's life blocks of time pass by and it doesn't always happen.

We'd like to have a self improvement book that we read every day but it doesn't always happen.

We'd like to be in great shape and eat right and sleep well but it doesn't always happen.

We'd like to list and sell more homes than the year before but it doesn't always happen.

For the past fifteen years I have had something that I could count on, rain or shine, who was always there as consistent as time marching by.  It didn't matter if I was in a good or bad mood, if I made a sale that day or not, if the economy was bad or good or whether a Democrat or Republican was in the White House.  Now I've never been accused of being the world's greatest pet lover but I can tell you that every time I opened the door upon arriving home or when I came down the stairs in the morning my little dog "Cubbie" (I know it's a real macho name) was there to greet me wagging his tail to beat the band.  He didn't care if I was in a bad mood or was half asleep or even if I didn't seem to pay him any notice he would wag his tail and be happy to see me.  Unfortunately, he passed away on New Year's Eve with very little notice.   My daughters are in their twenties now but it's amazing how both they and my wife miss that little dog.  He had become a big part of our family even though his consistency would often times go by without notice.  After all how many things in life can be counted on to deliver day after day after day.  Perhaps there is a sales lesson to be learned from the "dogged consistency" that these little animals show us.  Maybe that's one of the reasons that they are here!?  HMMMMMMMM

Don't tell anyone but I sure do miss that little dog.

Sorry to hear about your dog. It sounds like he  had a great life with you! They are consistent, aren't they. We also need to be persistent like a 2 yr.old keep going after what we want!

Great point!  Consistency is a key, as long as it is positive things one is consistent about...just like Cubbie.

It is hard to lose a friend like that.  Get yourself to a shelter and rescue another best friend.

Marvin,

Great post and advise. Eating right and staying in shape are hard for me. With an inconsistant schedule and opportunities that pop up, I sometimes forget to take care of myself. This is a very rewarding profession. I love to see the happiness that a buyer or seller has when I have provided them great service.

Also, I'm sorry to here about your dog. My Boda is a constant and consistant friend also.
