Both soup and the Portsmouth NH real estate market are bubbling away.

It’s the end of January in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Temperatures are in the mid 20s and we’ve had a couple of feet of snow so far.

Perfect weather for a big, hot, bubbling pot of home made soup as well as an update on current and also bubbling Portsmouth NH real estate market.

bubbling pot of home made soup and an update on the also bubbling portsmouth new hampshire real estate market

We finished up a ham last night for dinner. I took the nice sized bone with quite a bit of meat still clinging to it and boiled it for a couple of hours and stuck it in the fridge overnight. When I took it out this morning there was a big pot of jellied ham broth and all the flavor and goodness from that ham bone.

So I diced up a couple of potatoes, some carrots, and a large sweet onion and tossed them in the pot with the ham stock and lots of pieces of ham. Next I put in a can of corn and another of Kidney beans. All that is now simmering on the stove top getting ready for a hearty dinner tonight.

I also diced up some listings and sales info on the Portsmouth and Seacoast NH area real estate market.

The bubbling portsmouth nh and seacoast area real estate market

The Portsmouth real estate market is simmering too. We actually beat the 2009 sales figures in 2010 and 2011 is off to a bubbling start as well.

So far we’ve put several of our listings under agreement, had a couple of sales, and topped it off with a nice closing.

As of today in the Portsmouth NH zip code, 03801, there are 72 active listings with a median price of $367,000 and median days on the market (DOM) of 102. New Castle’s median price for their 16 active listings is $997,000 and 168 median days on the market.

The 03870 zip code, which is Rye Beach down to North Hampton has 39 active listings at a median price of $649,900 and median DOM of 182.

That’s a snapshot of the current state of the Portsmouth area real estate market.

Happy to supply you sales or listings data for any other Portsmouth or Seacoast NH areas and also furnish you a list of current homes or condos for sale that might meet your needs.

Just call me or Ann Cummings at 603-431-1111, my extension is 3801 and Ann’s is 3839.

Mmmm, I love making home made soups! Got a Mexican five bean soup in the crockpot now, actually! The house smells so good I'm licking the walls. Just kidding of course. (or aaaaam I?)

Just gotta get me some sour cream and some corn bread at the store later. And some Corona, of course.

Thanks for the ham soup recipe and the market snapshot. If you like soups a little "kicked up" I'll be happy to send you the recipe which I learned from an elderly Baja/Mexican woman some years back.

Happy Selling!

Matylda's 5 Bean Soup:

  • 20 oz bag mixed beans
  • 4 diced ripe tomatoes or a 14 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup brown rice
  • a few sprigs chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp ea salt & pepper
  • 1 ea chicken and beef bouillon cubes
  • 2 diced jalapeno peppers
  • 1 clove chopped garlic
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 med red pepper, chopped
  • 1 med green pepper, chopped
  • 2 stalks chopped celery
  • 1 clove garlic
Moisten the beans overnight or according to instructions on the bag. When ready put the beans and the rice in the crockpot and cover with water, over covering it by about 2". Then throw everything else in and stir it. I like to use the food processor to chop (but not emulsify or puree) everything else all at once, except the dried seasonings. Cook on low for 9 - 10 hours.
I've served this at broker opens and workshops and its always a hit.
