Active Rain -- newbie tips #7 -- spice up your text with color and size.

When someone is new to Active Rain, they may be looking for a starting point. Here are some quick suggestions

  • Log in every day (100 points). Blog daily (200 points each) Comment (25 points each).  Ten comments per day. Re blog (25 points). Invite others and get points from their activity. Points are given for updating your profile.
  • Like the name Active Rain says -- get Active. To learn more, read the manual.
  • Look in groups. Find some groups that interest you and join. Read, comment and post to those groups. Subscribe to blogs that you enjoy reading.
  • Not sure how to do something? Go to the "search" link at the top, type in a question or phrase and you will find a blog about it. Also look at the FAQ link at the bottom of the page. As you progress, it will get easier.

Does your blog need a face lift? Would you like to add some color and size to your text?

Try Mozilla Firefox with Scribefire to write and edit your blog before you post it. Mozilla Firefox is an Internet browser just like Internet Explorer but it also includes a text writing tool. This tool has a few more options that you don't have available when you are writing a blog on Active Rain.

With Scribefire you can also change the size of the font as well as add color to the font. This can make a bland post look a little more appealing. I use Firefox for all my Active Rain activity.

Below is a short video on how to use the Scrbefire tool for writing your blog. I am using a PC with the Vista operating system.  It may look different on your computer if you have another operating system or you have a Mac.

Craig - I can't thank you enough for all these tips - even after four years on AR, I am still trying new things!  Scribefire is something I'll be trying.

Debby, just one of the many things you can learn for FREE in Active Rain.

Julia, Scribefire has made a big change to my blogging. And it's easy to use. Download Firefox then add on the Scribefire. You will love it.

Mari, I haven't used an IPad, so I don't know if it will work. I've seen young kids who are tech whizzes. Ask someone like that. Maybe they might know. Or you can play with it yourself. Please share with us if you do get it to work. Write a blog about it.

Fernando, I tried Chrome briefly and didn't like it. Maybe it was just the "change" thing. I wasn't used to it. Maybe I didn't give it a chance. I like the Mozilla Firefox with Scribefire.  Please try it and share with us what you experienced.

Scribefire seems to be your tip that lit a fire under most of us, me included! I had recently been in a tutorial with AR and asked how to change fonts and color, and was told just to do that in Word. But I have Firefox and never use it, so with your advice, I'm going to try it out . . . bookmarking your post. Thanks!

Amy, it's something I learned from other members here in Active Rain. I tried it. I like it. It works well for me. Just add the Scribefire download to Firefox and off you go.

This is the second post I've read about Scribefire so I finally installed it. Now I just have to 1) Remember to use Firefox instead of Explorer and 2) Make sure I don't go crazy with different fonts and colors- that can be tempting!!  Thanks!

Jenny, Scribefire is a much more creative tool than the AR writer. You will play with it AND go crazy experimenting until you find that ONE style that you like. Have fun.

Richard, I learned a lot from you.   I recently went to Mozilla Firefox and have discovered that my site with Alamode doesn't show up correctly if people are using Firefox, and I can't edit the site without going back to Internet Explorer.  Major nuisance and heaven knows how many people have looked at the garbled site through Firefox and cut me off their list.   Do you have any comments or suggestions?

Aida, glad you found the video helpful. There's so much more to learn here in Active Rain. This is a very supportive group of people.

Ross, we all need a little "boost" once in a while, including me.

Elise, this is only the beginning of making you blogs look better. Richard has some excellent links to improve the looks of your blog. Check out the rest of them and you will feel like a pro in no time at all.

Craig,  I just read through your post after reading through Richard Yates.  I had been using Mozilla FF for quite a while but didn't know of this nifty tool.  I was always building my blog in Google Docs to jazz them up a tad then cut and paste into AR.  Usually works fine but sometimes things go amok.  Great advice and well presented. Thank you! I'm going back and reading your other bits of advice.. Subscribed!
