A Time To Reflect,

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Chesterfield

A Time To Reflect,

This afternoon I was going through my emails when one caught my eye.  Well at least the subject did and it cause me do a little reflecting on what I would call the good ole days.

The days of being able to go out and play from sun up to dinner time, and we always knew when that was or else. A Time To Reflect  Those were the days when you would walk to school 2+ miles in the snow uphill both ways. You wouldn't be concerned about people bothering you or something bad happening.

School days, for me, were always filled with trips to the principal's office or a visit to the coach for some attitude adjustment therapy.  These were the days when they were the disciplinarians with that board with the holes in it.  That was just part of the day, the rest of the day was filled with phone numbers and girls and a little school work.

Back then we would never use paper to take down phone numbers or addresses we would just use the first thing handy, our hand or wrist or arm.  We would use our notebooks for the more serious stuff like our art work.  In my case it was more doodles and scribbles.

Ah, reflections does the body good!!

Don, I come from the same era.  I made sure I did not meet that board though.  It did keep us in line.  Now they would be up for charges of child abuse.

I want to play from sun up to sun down.

My favorite was post it notes which wasn't much more helpful than writing on the hand.

Marchel,

That board got me expelled when the principal gave me three swats and I laughed at him.  OMG, I hope my kids don't read this.

Don,

Simpler times. My friends and I would go out bike riding all day and no one would worry. Not so today...sigh.

Deborah,

I had a friend in 1961 who lived in Virginia and he still had an out house.  He did have running water though.  I am not to sure about the wooden teeth though.

Christine,

We would go out right after breakfast and stay gone all day then check in at dinner time.  You can't let kids today out of your sight for fear something will happen to them.

Elizabeth,

How is it I have 4 women that were the first to comment and three of them knew what I was talking about.  That's scary.  LOL

That is so true we have to keep our eyes on our kids far too much.

Don...

Things have really changed these days. Back then, we were terrified of the "board of eduction> and the associated "attitude adjustment." Nowadays it seems like there isn't much discipline at all.

Hi Don - I come from the same era.  I usually had to have attitude adjustments also.  I definitely would not go home and tell my father that I got whacked on the hand or got into trouble.  I would then get the punishment twice(:

Conrad,

By the time I go home my grandmother had already found out and then when granddad got home it was a trip to the wood shed.
