What good a goat?

On the news tonight (1/28/11) they reported that Las Cruses New Mexico has just hired 60 goats to trim the vegetation around (whatever) in a very inaccessible place.  Las Cruses is to pay, per day for this trimming $250.  They did not mention how many days.

But, this is not news to me.  From our home we hear in the morning horses, chickens, and over the hill we have met the goats.  Our (almost) neighbor takes her goats various places to trim the vegetation.

In our neighborhood, in New Mexico, the acres we have are not green with grass.  The acres are typically filled with sand (mostly) and catus, a few junipers, and periodic tumbleweed.  Goats it seems have the perfect teeth and digestinal track to appreciate all of this.  We need to clear to prevent fires. Goats are it!

Are you tired of riding the lawn mower over your multiple acres?  Hire a goat herder.  Ours is a pretty lady.  The goats are friendly and clean.

We may just buy our own herd and hire them out!

I love hearing about this sensible "green" solution!  I miss New Mexico... I grew up in Portales, NM!

I have heard about this in my area too.  It sounds like a good solution.  And some goat cheese with a nice bottle of wine is a good idea too.
