My NOT a Blackberry or Treo Cell Phone

my phoneThe XV 6700... does a great job keeping REALTOR(R) organized , in touch, and on track ......

There aren't many others with "my phone" and I often wonder why?  Most people that opt for a "fancy" phone, use either a Blackberry or Treo based.

I was an exclusive Palm Pilot user before I combined my cell phone and planner together, but I have to tell you, I'm quite pleased with the Windows Mobile platform.  It is similar to a desktop start menu.  (Yeah, I'm not really a techy, so excuse my lingo :)

I can surf the internet; take pretty good pictures; compose, send, read emails; text message; typical telephone functions; store files on a removeable storage card; sync with my laptop, including Outlook Contacts; and play Bubble Breaker!phone

By the way, there is a slide-out keyboard on the side, it will automatically flip to Landscape if you slide the keyboard out.  I chose this model because I do a lot of text messaging , and thought after I had it, I would also being using the email feature. The keypad is larger, so you can use the two-thumb method instead of just one.

The only thing I really didn't like - and still don't - is that to dial, you use the touch screen, so you can't just 'feel' where the numbers are - you have to really LOOK where you are dialing.

The screen is large, so you can enlarge the text and still see enough of the screen to read what you need to at a glance.  And I connect with my Motorola Pink Blue Tooth most of the time for talking.

I've had it for about 2 years now, and I'm usually the first to upgrade every year.... I'm happy with this one.... I think I'll keep it :)  I'm with Verizon Wireless and the phone is currently about $300-$400.

Eric - yeah, I guess its what we're used to - I've heard many great things about the Blackberry Pearl.

David - I'm not sure that I wouldn't switch to the i-phone if given the opportunity :)... and I sounded so dedicated.....

Kim I too have been thinking about getting a Pearl currently using the BB-7520. I love the screen size on your phone though and will have to check it out.

There's a couple of neat phones out. I'm real happy w/ my treo 650. I had a sneak peek of a new treo in europe. They plan to make it thinner and get rid of the touch screen.

I have been trying to get information on the various alternative and what people like and don't like.  I think in New Hampshire we may be limited by the MLS service that we use as to which phones are compatible.  They have had to develope patches for the phones they thought were compatible. I am sort of sitting back and waiting to see what develops.  I will check out this option as I am with Verizon.

Kim, I had one of these.  I was really great as everything except a phone and I had to get a second line with a second phone for my calls.  Now I'm using a Blackberry (which is not the best phone either, but it's better). and after the learning curve stuff got worked out I began to love it.  By the way, Bubble Breaker can be really, really addictive!

Kim

I have been a Palm user for many years now. I am currently using a Treo 650 but have seen other phones I would like to try. The reason I don't is that I haven't found a way to transfer my hundreds of contacts.

You said you were a Palm user before, did you find a way to transfer your contacts or did you just bite the bullet and re-enter them.

I bought one of these so I could have one device for phone and lockbox. I love it for everything else, but I found that it didn't get very good reception in many parts of my town, and finally went to a small phone and use the Pocket PC for everything else, so I'm back to carrying 2 devices again.

Thats a cool phone, people dont shop around enought when looking for smart phones they usually do only go with the ones they have heard of.  Thanks for the post.

I was like you using Palm prior to switching to windows based 8125 Cingular phone. I love it! I do want the newer version, just for it's Internet speed. But, other than that I'm very happy with my change.

Randy - the screen size is definately a big PLUS - especially for the pictures :)

Mario - I wonder why they are getting rid of the touch screen? hmmm.  Interesting! Fun you got a sneak peek!

Joan - I tried to keep up with the latest device that was compatible with my lockboxes & MLS, but they are way behind. Don't know if thats our area or just in general.  Wish I could get to ONE device!!

Patricia - You know, I forget that it isn't the best with hearing as far as the phone goes, but with my Bluetooth in my ear most of the time, I have no problem !  Bubble Breaker is SO addictive - thanks for the chuckle

Terry - I used the Chapura Mirror (hope I'm 'saying' that right) to sync with Outlook from my Palm, then when I got the new phone, i synched with Outlook again, make sense?

Leslie - You are carrying two devices? Bless you!  It is great though as a Mobile PC

Stephen - You are so right. Its hard to find information when phones are new though, I did a fair amount of research, especially cause you are pretty 'locked in' (cause I'm a cheapy and won't upgrade till I get a good discount every two years).

Todd- It's all in what you will USE and are USED to, right?  Glad you are happy. It's so much better when you aren't fighting with your technology items :)

Frank Why thank you, Frank.  Glad you are happy with yours, don't change if you are !!

I have this phone through Sprint and absolutely love it.  My favorite feature is the wiFi capability.  I can check my email anywhere there's a wiFi signal and not have to worry about turining on my laptop.  Plus searching the internet is a breeze.  And you don;t have to pay for internet through your cell phone carrier.

They just came out with a new version of this phone and from what  I understand they even lowered the price and some features are even better.

I have a very similar phone through Cingular/AT&T and I like it--it's doing everything just fine.  I feel pretty confident in my connectivity--I can send and receive texts, keep tabs on email, have all my Outlook contacts auto synced.  I particularly love the Contacts part.  The only thing is, there weren't a lot of choices in cases.  I ended up buying one at a mall kiosk.  It fits fine but it has a magnet close.  That seems to occasionally cause the phone to act weird.  I would kind of like to know who is the OEM manufacturer of these phones.

On of the additional items you have not address is if you have the internet/broadband/wifi access you can also down load a program that will allow you to link to your laptop using blue tooth or usb connection to use your phone as a modem instead of paying for an Icard for the laptop. That is the primary reason I replaced by Treo 650 with one! With the blue tooth connection I can open my Laptop anywhere, or use the phone to do the same it all depends on whom I am presenting too.

I can't move from the Treo 650, because I've learned so well to use it along with Outlook.  Maybe some day Apple will come up with an iPhone that's better for business (try scrolling through 2500 contacts by first or last name!), but I'm probably looking for a newer Treo until then.

I like the look of the phone and I agree with you about not being excited about the touch screen.  The qwerty keyboard on the Treo and Blackberry are tough to beat.

Apparently I'm not the only one who feels like their in some sort of secret club....lol

I love my XV-6700!....but yes dialing while driving is impossible.   It may take a while, but the voice trainer works great for just dialing via speech.

Having a Windows OS is excellent when it comes to syncing up with outlook at the office.  With multimedia email becoming more commonly used, it's also great for responding to email with a video message!

Ever since I bought this phone, my laptop has just gathered dust....

I've even magaged to create some templates my device in Excel.  Having the abillity to be anywhere and run a pre-qual for a buyer on the spot and email them a copy is tremendous.

Has anyone seen any .pdf applications for it yet?

P.S. Can anybody touch a Bubble Breaker score of 4779 in portrait-megashift?...haha
