Little Princesses Need To Remain Originals

Little PrincessAfter probably 100 or was it 1,000 (LOL) blog posts without a rant, one of my pet peeves was bothering me today. It all has to do with LABELS and people thinking it is not good enough to just be themselves. I call it

Little Princesses Need To Remain Originals.

I see appendages of people in society, big time celebrity's GIRLFRIEND, Johnny Carson's sidekick, DAUGHTER of the mayor, Lindsey Lohan's BOYFRIEND, a big shot REALTOR's ho hum assistant, Sarah Palin's dancing daughter. NONE of us are appendages or just LABELS of another even if the other draws more star power.

A little princess is always precious to the world ALL IN HER OWN RIGHT. OK, Ed McMahon carved out his own identity seeming to play straight man in the shadows. But what irks me is the star power one in the relationship often treats the labeled one like CRAP, never even using their first name. Treating people like THINGS. It is so a lack of respect and arrogance to the max thing coming from the more well known one.

The WORST beyond that lack of R-E-S-P-E-C-T from the more recognized one is the labeled one seems to think they must fit into that role of assistant, girlfriend, sidekick etc. ONLY and they start to lose their own identity or are just playing a ROLE. Everyone is supremely important with a first, middle, and last name given to them by their parents and the road they have traveled is equally valid in life. They are not LESSER beings!! They need to EXERT their originality.

Sometimes others will say of the labeled one OH YOU REMIND ME OF THIS PERSON. Also a BAD characterization. You are NOT another person even if similar. As Judy Garland reminds us, "Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else." DO NOT want to be like someone else!

Thanks for letting me rant on society's perceived labels they give us. It starts in childhood I believe where we watch Michael Jackson on TV and want to do a Moonwalk backward dance or see Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan do a dunk of a basketball and want to be like Mike, but we have to remember, WE ALREADY ARE ALL WE NEED TO BE. WE ARE A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE PRINCESS (or Prince).

Gary-Something obviously put a bug in your shorts. Smile, One thing I can guarantee you with your friend Sharon Lee she is definitely an original and I will NEVER be a copy of someone else. When God made me he threw the mold away. Doesn't mean I am better than anyone but what I mean is NO two people are alike.  Now princess Sharon. I like the sound of that. Now all I need is my prince.

Gary - It is definitely a show of disrespect to someone's individuality to treat them like an extension of someone else. I loved your post- thank you!

"I listen for a living." It's all about you.

I see the results of your concern each and every day.  Realtor® come in all sizes, shapes, and abilities....some of them are even Realtor® with all that applies, and yet the public wants to lump as all into that neat pile.  I often ask a prospect to tell me what they think of agents, or had they ever dealt with an agent who didn't come through for them.  This allows them to come forward and share their thoughts.  I can only counter what I know.  Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi Sharon: Bug in the shorts love it.... but it does irritate me when people are not themselves...

Garrigus: Say no to extensions...

Larry: I don't like the homogeneity of people, as we all are very much individuals.

Hi Gary,

I love Sharon's phrase "Put a bug in your shorts". It does have a nice ring and fits in this instance..something set you off but you are right. We already are who we need to be..and yes we all are a princess or a prince!!

Gary - I have to admit I've never experienced that even as a secretary, which is about as "appendagy" as you can get.  If you really are into valuing yourself as an individual, no one can put you into a pigeonhole for long.  As for accepting crap treatment from others, well again, there are times you have to suffer through it because you can't afford to lose your job or you are finding the right time to exit an abusive relationship (so as to escape with your life), but no one can keep you down for long, if you really value yourself and have a strong sense of your individuality.  I'm sorry for the frustration this situation is causing you.  It's hard to stand by and see someone we care for settling for less than they deserve in life.

I know exactly what you are saying.  Having spent my life as someone's daughter, my husband's wife, my son's mother, sometimes you just want to scream... hey, it's me!  Susan!  I even find myself, when calling someone on my father's side of the family, introducing myself as Susan, Larry's daughter.  Jack often refers to me as "my wife".   If we are out and someone is taking photos he almost always says, "take a picture of my wife and me".  Irritates the crap out of me.  Thanks for sharing the bug in your shorts.  lol!

Dori: Yes we all have days with bugs in our shorts and I don't like to see people dissed, so I had to air it out.

Lori: Like that song, "I gotta be ME!!"

Gail: I like your long term view and not settling thoughts. Very good Gail.

Susan: Wow, a testimonial to how second class citizen that labeling can make you feel. Hopefully now you are stepping up and asserting your unique self and not wanting at all to stay in the shadows...

Gary-Rest assured this princess is an original even if the world see's her as someone's boyfriend. I am MY OWN woman. My boyfriend has figured that out over the last 13 months. Smile

Elisa: I think all women want to be the Princess to their Prince Charming or King right and not just someone's boyfriend!! Glad you are an original. The only way any of us divinely created creatures should be.
