I Work 24/7/365, and I'm trying to figure out how to work even More!

By
Real Estate Agent with Remerica Integrity, Realtors®, Northville, MI

I Work 24/7/365, and I'm trying to figure out how to work even More!

That's my new motto. From now on, I'll work 100% of every day. 24 hours - 1,440 minutes - 86,400 seconds. Every Day. Holidays, birthdays, you name it. I'm there for you.

I have a family. I have clients. I even have friends (which, until now, I was going to try to keep in touch a little more. read about that here)

I'm pushing them all to the side.

I want to be there for YOU.

You call me, I'll pick up the phone. Every time.

Send me an email. I'll get back to you within seconds.

Text me. I'll respond before you can put your phone down.

Even Think about me, your phone will ring, and my helpful, cheery voice will be there to take care of your every need.

Stressed at Work

Isn't that what you want?

You want your real estate agent to drop what they're doing, no matter what it is, and be there for YOU. At your beck and call. Like a personal servant?

No problem. I'm in. I'll give up golf, watching The Apprentice and helping my children with their homework. Just for YOU.

*pause*

Okay, I can't go on any longer. This is ridiculous.

Like you, I have a life. I have a family that means more to me than anything. I have friends. I have hobbies. I also need a little time to relax. And seriously, I can't give up eating. I like eating.

What I will promise is that I'll be here for you. I do what needs to be done. I return calls, emails and texts. And believe it or not, I've read a mind or two. It's pretty cool.

Let me know, up front, what you expect of me. I'll meet or exceed your expectations. If I can't, I'll let you know.

And for any client, or potential client, that truly thinks I should be available 24/7/365, let me help you find another agent. I know a few that'll drop what their doing and ask "how high?" when you tell them to jump.

Have a great day,

Eric...

Eric, Balance has to be maintained, or we'll all be good for about a month before we're ash blowin' in the wind!

BLiz, I've been pushing it for a little longer than a month, but I'm really learning to slow down a bit. I don't want to run out of "candle".

/any self-respecting person knows that they can do a better job for others, by taking care of themselves as well.  i love your humor in this post.  I, too, like to be all that I can for my clients, but not to my own detriment.  Great post.

Well, I for one am completely disappointed that you aren't actually available 24/7/365.  Who will I send a referral to at 3 am?

Eric,

The answer is cloning...not clowning. Sadly, your post is far too true for many agents.

Hi Eric,

Ok I will bite, how did Tom inspire this? He does seem to work around the clock...

There is no way I am giving up eating, sleeping yes, but not eating. No way, no how...

Eric- this was hilarious, great sense of humor.  But the really sad part is that agents are the ones who have created this mentality among the real estate customers. I see agents market themselves as being available 24/7. It bothers me because it is a lie. There is no such thing as someone who is available 24/7 because that would be a person who wakes up to a call at 3 a.m. or a person who answers the text while they are having sex with their significant other. How rude that would be:) Or on the toilet- how crude that is.

Underpromise and overdeliver.

Hi Eric,

I think you made your point in a very humorous way :)  I don't get it ... is anybody else in any other profession held to the same expectations?

Hi Eric,

This is hilarious and so true.  You MUST have some time that is NOT AVAILABLE to clients unless it's an emergency or something similar.. Without that time, you are not as productive the rest of the time... now what...???? I'm preaching to someone that obvious knows that.  :)

I get in this digital age that people can communicate at all hours of the day.  Just cuz you CAN does not mean you SHOULD.  I recently had to remind a client of my business hours after waking up 3 days in a row to pre-7 am texts!!  Enthusiastic thumbs up!

Eric - Did this get featured after a year?

As to the rest, I have to agree that none of us can work 24/7/365.

Jared, thanks. I knew you'd understand what I was saying.

Christine, just like you!

Lisa, send it anytime, just don't expect me to answer my phone at 3 am! lol

Rich, what about cloning clowns? That would be awesome and scary at the same time!

Sardi, I eat deals. That's my nutrition. That or steaks and chickens. Whatever...

Brent, I honestly don't remember. Did you click on the link to Toms blog? That's the key!

N & K, you think some agent somewhere hasn't stopped the act to answer their phone? It's happened, and will happen again.

Tammy, I'll always take your call. Unless I can't. You know that.

Carie, the only other profession that takes calls 24/7 is the police and fire department. Though, we don't call them individually.

Judi, even an "emergency" in the middle of the night isn't gonna get taken care of until the next day, right?

Ivette, text me whenever you want, just don't expect a response during all hours.

Christine, it was actually a year and a half! Love it!

Ed, good luck with your business, too! Thanks for coming by.

Bill, Leap Year is overrated. (blog coming up!) Hope you really liked it! That would make me happy!
