Facebook Launches Easier Business Page Set-Up.  What Does this Mean to You?

Yesterday I wrote about the benefits of having a Facebook Business Page for your business and outlined why it's a smart idea to use a business page instead of a personal profile to promote your business.

Today Facebook unveiled it's new simpler interface for creating Facebook Business Pages. The interface is much more graphical in nature and is designed to help users understand what kind of page to create.  The new interface accomplishes three things:

Facebook Business Page Interface1.  It makes it easier to choose what kind of page to create

2.  It clarifies business categories and helps users choose the right categoryFacebook Business Categories

3.  It integrated your businesses address into your business page, thereby tying it into Facebook Places.

So what does this mean to you and I? I think it means that Facebook is moving towards improved monetization and enforcement of it's terms of service. Business pages is what will create the cash flow for Facebook. By focusing on improving the ease by which users can create and build followers for business pages, Facebook will be able to force businesses to play by the rules.

This is supported by the artilce in Newser Magazine on January 6th that predicts Facebook will be Traded Publiclly in 2012

I think that this is a good thing.  What do you think?

Hi Kate,

I missed the new simpler interface recently, I've had mine for a while. But I think you're absolutely correct on your analysis.

Kate - yes, I think it is a good thing, esp the guidance on type of page to create.  They had a bait & switch in the last one w/ community pages.

Kate - I find Facebook to be the most confusing of all the social media sites.  It's overly complex, always changing, and has so many moving parts.  I'm sure I set up my business page all wrong, but it has almost 900 fans, so what the heck!
