That's the Realtor® in the picture!!!??

I'm sorry...I am still trying to find out why many real estate agents have very, and I mean very, old pictures on their profile and business cards...a younger version of themselves.

Is it because they are soooo busy they never had the chance to retake an updated picture?  In 10/20 years???  I don't think so, I'm sure in the 10 to 20 years in between they have had pictures taken of them somehow.

Is it because they really don't care about it?  I wish they would because it shocked the hell out of me when I met a well known agent who I had previously only known through advertisements and I could not believe my eyes!  "So you're agent so and so?????"  Had to fight to keep my mouth from hanging wide open.

Is it because they would like to "maintain" that youthful appearance? I could understand wanting to keep your youth, I wish I could keep mine, but when a client meets you for the first time, they are expecting to get the person in the pictures.  Not that it's a deal breaker, because like I said before the agent I was shocked to physically meet is successful, but it leaves you wondering.

Or is it because they believe clients prefer "younger-looking" agents because they symbolize energy and enthusiasm and passion, so they can get that appointment and get their foot in the door?  I don't think so, I would think clients would be more worried on your stats than your picture....I could be wrong.

And from what I have seen, it's rampant...many agents don't update their photo.  Can someone please explain this to me??  I'm sure there is a good reason.

I'm not such a fan of Joe or Josephine Broker image. Why not pull back on the grin, zoom in on something unique and timely to the area to promote or your brand, logo, colors. Especially if everyone has the deer in the headlights..whether out dated or not.

Anyone past 40 probably doesn't want to admit to looking older. I'm in that group. I redo the picture of myself for my cards every two years. I realize my advatar on here is my car but that is how i am known in this little town.

@Andrew Mooers - I agree.  My first picture was a posed one with my hands folded on a desk.  I was smiling but I looked stiff.  I know go for more natural looking pictures with my interests or passions included in the pic.

@ Rob Shepherd - If that is how you are known in your town, I think it's great that you use a car pic.  No one will be shocked when they meet you.
