Last week, I attended the Real Estate Staging Association's (RESA) annual conference. It was my first RESA conference, and I expected to learn a couple of new staging tricks and meet fellow stagers from around the country. However, something became obvious to me as I listened to the speakers, and chatted with friends old and new: staging is so much more than people who aren't stagers realize.
For some, staging is a part-time pursuit or a paid hobby that they "fell into" because they have a knack for decorating. But for the 350+ professional stagers who attended the conference, home staging is a creative outlet and serious business, as evidenced by the new software, products, training, and innovations that were discussed during 2 1/2 information-packed days. Most of the presentations focused on the business of staging, and how many stagers have raised the bar of this emerging industry not only by developing their creative talent, but by demonstrating true business savvy and vision. These professionals are constantly investing in themselves, their businesses, and the staging industry by belonging to a organization like RESA, continuing their education, and sharing their experiences with fellow stagers.
I was motivated and inspired by the stories and information people shared, and have the highest respect for what they've been able to accomplish in their businesses. Home staging is a real industry, and its dedicated professionals provide a great deal of value for their clients.
I look forward to the day when everyone realizes it.
