Grace Philips – Mamaroneck High School student named as a finalist in Intel’s 2011 Science Talent Search

Due to steering laws I generally don’t dwell on Westchester NY schools or school systems.  However, as a former scientist I wanted to give a shout out to  the fact that Grace Phillips of Mamaroneck High School was named a finalist in the highly competitive Intel 2011 Science Talent Search.   She will join the other 39 finalists from across the nation in Washington DC in March where she will present her work in “HCAA conjugates in the context of the domestication history S. melongena.”   We wish her the best of luck both now and in her future endeavors.

Also of interest is the fact that 19 of the 300 semi finalists (or roughly 6%) were from Westchester NY schools.  Of the 19 students 18 were from area public schools.  The semi-finalists all came from the following public schools.   Edgemont High School – (Scarsdale P.O.)   Scarsdale High School,  White Plains High School, Byram Hills High School (Armonk NY), Horace Greeley High School (Chappaqua NY), Yorktown High School, Croton-Harmon High School (Croton-on-Hudson) Mamaroneck High School (Mamaroneck NY & Larchmont NY) and first prize for the most semifinalist goes to Ossining High School with eight of the 19 semi-finalists attending that school.
