Closing with Baby...

By
Industry Observer with ARFCO Media

Selling or buying a home certainly has its challenges for kids. At our Eastlake office we see a lot of young families around the closing table with small children.

Last Friday was no exception. A small boy about 4 years old and his little baby sister in a stroller, neither were very happy at the idea of hanging out, being quiet, with nothing to do while mom and dad sign a humongous pile of paper work to purchase their new home.

We have a box of toys for the kids, but it never fails they gravitate to the white board.I love kid art. They draw all kinds of stuff. It’s such a simple mechanism for engagement and the parents are usually surprised when they're gathering up to leave and we don’t want them to erase the white board.

I thought this one was precious. An interesting character study of baby sister by older brother.

René,

Good idea to have things ready for the kids to do. That reminds me of a blog I need to write about a closing where the kids got a little out of hand! It was one that I will never forget.

I agree Rene, kid art is awesome. How can you beat spontaneous, organic and unrestrained?

Rene -- I like the baby's hair.  Cute!  Kid art is great. Sometimes it reveals a lot more than we would think.

I love kids and that is why I invite the whole family when showing homes or closing. They need to be part of the experience in my opinion. It is stressful enough, but if they feel their opinion counts it helps. I love to make the kids smile and in turn it makes me smile.

Todd: These I think are my favorite closings. Having 4 kids myself, they are never a nuisance at all. Infact, they bring something to the office it needs.
