I posted a link on my Facebook page today, letting my Friends know that my Husband Joe Villarreal has made the decision to participate in The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Lone Star Chapter "Tower Climb and Run" on February 26th, 2011. The beauty of his participation in this very difficult climb of 952 Steps up to to the top of the Tower of America's in San Antonio Texas, is that he HAS CYSTIC FIBROSIS. As a patient wanting to participate in this climb, to raise money and Awareness for this terrible disease, just makes me Beam with Pride!,
Some of the comments I received melted my heart. Some were congratulating him. Others were unaware and shocked he had it. And I found out that 3 of my friends have children or family members whom have it too.
It is amazing what you find out about each other when you allow yourself to become vulnerable and share personal information.
Throughout the day, our Inbox kept popping up notifications that a donation has been made to support Joe on his climb. Since he registered so late, he made a small donation goal of $150.00 to be able to participate. In less than 5 hours, he surpassed his goal! Now, we are just grateful to see others offer support.
As he commented on one of the threads... "My life and strength has never been for me but for those who didn't have the chances I was given. I will have a lot of hands pushing up those steps, Thanks for being there. :o)" Wow! That brought happy tears to my eyes! It will not be easy for him, nor anyone else participating. However, he will get to the top. He is determined. I cannot wait to go and see him accomplish this goal. Next year, I too will join him on the Climb!
