Buying a duplex is such a great investment opportunity for first time home buyers. It presents a unique opportunity to enter into homeownership and real estate investing simultaneously. Many lenders are even able to include projected rental income when qualifying for a loan and FHA loans are available for 1-4 unit residences. Single family homes and condos are often the first choices for home buyers, but I believe duplexes should be considered as well. For more info on duplexes in Austin click here.

Hi Jen, My first house was a duplex. We bought it along with my brother in law whos also my real estate partner. Our kids grew up together like it was the same house. We moved when the kids got a little bigger and we grew out of it. The children were not happy and still miss it and talk about it 6 years later....... I agree A duplex is great for your first home. Nice picture!

Jen - My first hubby and I had a duplex back in the 80's; we owned it with some friends. It was really cool for awhile. We shared a courtyard with another duplex and all four units were couples and we all got along for years. Until one by one we started getting divorced. Oh well. :)
