Record Low with Saguaro: Mike in Tucson, AZ mortgage lender

~ Record Low with Saguaro ~

Tucson Mountain Park

Last night the temperature hit an all-time low (for February) of 15 degrees in Tucson.  Two people died of exposure.  Mother Nature is unpredictable and unforgiving at times.  Southwest Gas announced a Civil Emergency as it ran out of natural gas in parts of Tucson and Sierra Vista.  14,000 homes are without heat, and service is not likely to be restored for three days.  Thousands of homes experienced water damage as unprotected pipes burst.

This saguaro is unperturbed by the human drama.  It endured the cold, as it has for more than 100 years, and smiled this morning at the sun.  It may be bitterly cold, but the desert is still a thing of beauty.

Pretty incredible temps, huh?  I'm still watching the news from back home and they had it even worse.  My wonderful parents (in El Paso, Tx) told me they got down to about 3 last night, not counting the wind chill up on the mountain.

Thankfully, we didn't lose water/gas/electricity.  However, I did stock up on water just in case I woke up with none - gotta have that morning cup!!

Mike, this just might be the night when you get to see icicles on a cactus.  What a scary thought.

There are some nights here when we wish it would be as "warm" as what you are calling "cold."  Brrrr

What a beautiful photo. Such a contrast from the news about the cold. It seems like there are many records being broker around the country this winter.

Mike, Wow, that is really cold. But I agree the desert is always beautiful and that is a great photo of the Saguaro cactus.

It's 31 at 6:30 a.m. this morning.  I just googled "current temp plano tx" and it's 19 degrees for you.  Stay warm!

Thanks for stopping by to comment, and thanks again for the phone call this afternoon.  See you on your blog.

Thanks!  (I haven't forgotten about the Meme...)

It's cold all across the country!

It's all relative, isn't it?  Fairbanks AK prays for weather as warm as the teens this time of year!  I know it's cold by you too.

Good morning Mike,

It looks like Mother Nature is taking her wrath out on many people all over the US this year.  I hope that those without heat will be getting it back sooner than expected.

Mike - that global warming is really kicking our but this year, and it's hard to understand how the country with the largest supply of natural gas is the world would have areas that run out in the winter. Just one of those things where somebody missed on their estimates, and thousands of people pay for it.
