Real Estate Agents

By
Commercial Real Estate Agent with Re/Max Commercial

As a Real Estate Broker I always surprised when I call an fellow Real Estate Agent that it takes them hours to return my call. What I find even more surprising the calls are not returned at all.

If agents have this policy they will miss out on an active listing and assisting their clients listing or buyers. Agents can not hide behind voice mail or the Brokerage Office messaging system.

No matter how Sophisticated smart phones become we as must still provide prompt client or customer service. This is what real estate is all about. We are selling or trading real estate. However we are dealing with the public and fellow agents to make the deal happen.

So bottom line please answer the call or return the call promptly its key in getting the deal done.

Many agents employ a "time blocking" approach where they only return calls once or twice a day.  That never worked for me but it does for them.  Unreturned calls? That's unacceptable.

Allen, I agree. Too many agents take the listing, put in MLS, and then they're gone off the radar. Most of the time, their office can't even reach them.

Sounds like you have been dealing with a few agents in my area. I don't know why it ALWAYS takes CERTAIN agents a day or two to get back with me. I wander if they do this to everyone , buyers and sellers included, or just agents.

Allen - It's true, and some don't even show up for the listing appt .. at all! Blows my mind. However, I will say that the agents in my area, who are still in business, have really improved in professional behavior. I am actually thrilled with the increased level of communication and listing data accuracy. Just my 2 cents :-)

I've run in to the "Time Blocking" issue with respect to returning calls.  It cause the rest of us not to want to seal with that agent, as we know we will not get a return call in a timely fashion.  In most of the other tasks, time blocking is great.

...there are what I call real estate professionals and then there is the rest... unfortunately the rest does not know much about professional courtesy or customer service...

The most trouble I have with agents not returning calls are those who have listed short sales or foreclosures. One once told me he's just too busy...Okayyyy.

I completely agree Allen. These real estate agents need to practise efficient follow ups because they lose clients if the dont.
