DID YOU KNOW? Spouses may be eligible for VLB loans! Are you the spouse, or surviving spouse* of a veteran? (aka Tx Vet, aka Veterans Land Board.)
Well, Texas may love its vets, but we also love their SURVIVING SPOUSE. If you are a surviving spouse of a TX VET, you may be entitled to a special home loan program.
*Surviving spouse is defined as:
(1) a person of the opposite sex who was the spouse of a veteran at the time of the veteran's death, and
(2) who lived with the veteran continuously from the date of marriage to the date of the veteran's death, and
(3) (a) who is currently not married or (b) (in cases not involving remarriage) is not currently living with another person and holding himself or herself out openly to the public to be the spouse of the other person.
Do any of these apply to your spouse?
- Did he or she die before completing the loan application process?
- Has he or she been identified as "missing in action"?
- Did he or she die in the line of duty or from a service-connected cause?
Did your spouse serve on active duty after September 16, 1940?
Does at least ONE of the following apply to your spouse?
- Did he or she serve at least 90 cumulative days of active duty (including training) in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Public Health Service or their reserve components? If not, were they discharged early due to a service-connected disability?
- Did he or she enlist or receive an appointment in the National Guard and complete all initial active duty training required as a condition of the enlistment or appointment?
- Did he or she have at least 20 years of active or reserve military service as computed when determining eligibility to receive retirement pay under applicable federal law?
- HOME AND HOME IMPROVEMENT LOANS ONLY: Did he or she serve in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam between February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975?
Did your spouse receive an honorable discharge, or a discharge under honorable conditions?
Was your spouse a legal resident of Texas at time of his or her death?
Remember: to be eligible for VLB Home Loan financing, new-construction homes must meet the federal government standards for energy efficiency in the Energy Star™ program.
