Is it just me, or is anyone else experiencing 'snail-like' response time on the network lately? I ran out to mow the lawn while I was waiting for the screen to change. If this pace keeps up, I just might be able to get my 10 comments in before bedtime!
It always amazes me how spoiled we've become with high-speed internet. I remember the days of my trusty (well, okay, NOT so trusty) HP Pavillion with it's lightning pace 75MHZ processor and whoppin' 8MB RAM!
Ah, such fond memories! Dial-up modems, boasting blazing 14.4K connections, and the joys of AO-Hell...
Interesting how our attitudes of joy or anger could be so easily influenced by hearing the words, "You've Got Mail!" or "Good-Bye!"
And if you wanted to download a file of any significant size, you would simply 'click' the download button, and head-off to bed. Hopefully, barring any disruptions to your phone signal, the file would be there to greet you over morning coffee.
It's the same kind of annoyance we face at the fast food drive-in line. Our local Jack-in-the-Box (Gag-in-the-Bag for you purists) is the major culprit in our town. They actually have 'marked' parking spaces reserved for people who need extra time to wait while they're food is being prepared.
"Hello?!?! It's called "FAST FOOD!"
And while we're on this subject, what's up with the Express Lane at Safeway? I mean, seriously, the sign says "15 Items or Less." What part of "15" don't people understand? 15 containers of Yoplait yogurt are still 15 items! They don't count as 1! There's a reason it's called the "Express" lane!
These are probably the same people who drive 20mph down the on-ramp to get onto the freeway. At some point, you're supposed to increase your speed to merge with the flow of traffic, right?
I think the Department of Transportation should authorize one day out of the year to be "National Demolition Derby Day." Anyone on the freeway is fair game. Someone moving too slow? Just trade some paint and send them onto the shoulder. The perfect release for all that pent-up road rage!
Well, as Craig Schiller would say, ...."I digress" Maybe I should actually attempt to get some work day today.
Gee, what a concept!
