Penney Farms in Clay County Florida has just been granted the Florida Scenic Highway designation. The canopy of trees as you drive along S R 16 is just dreamy. You don't see many of these anymore, and it goes on and on for over a mile. I took several shots a couple of weeks ago but here is my favorite. The ceremony will be held later in February to honor our very own Florida Scenic Highway in Penney Farms.
Sharon, it is beautiful. It reminds me The Loop in Ormond Beach. Miles of the road like this. When I first saw the photo, I thought it is our Loop.
There are beautiful places in florida. Thanks for the photo
One of the most beautiful drives is when the journet takes you along a tree lined street on which to travel. You are very lucky to have. 0)
Gorgeous oaks hanging over the drive. Its a shame that there aren't more areas left like this. Clay County has a real gem there.
Jon, roads like this are fewer and fewer in Florida. I remember when S R 434 in Winter Springs was a road like this and then they four-laned it.
Cheryl, it's gorgeous isn't it?
Martha, I don't get to drive this all the time - but we had a listing on that road, so I have been on it quite a bit lately.
Lee & Carol, it is. Hopefully this designation will help protect it.
Hi Frank and Sharon, Oh, this picture makes me long for those summer days!
That is one gorgeous road that I would really enjoy riding along. Great picture!
Cindy, and this was taken just a couple of weeks ago - here in Florida it's always part of summer even on freezing days and that day was freezing.
Elizabeth, I would love to ride it with you :)
Ooo. That looks like a perfect place for a Sunday drive. Or an any day drive. Lovely.
Hi Frank and Sharon... if this photo is any indication, it sure seems like it was a great decision!
Frank and Sharon, it does look really beautiful. What an honor for Penney Farms.
Sharon,
Great photo; we really appreciate these scenic treasures. They take years to establish.
Best,
Steve
Karen, can you imagine driving home from work everyday through here? Our recent Seller did!
Steve, I am so happy and think it was a great decision!
DeeDee, it is a real honor.
Steve, they do take years. I hope the designation will protect the road from being widened.
Patricia, the road and area are named for J.C. Penney who opened a retirement community in the 1920s.
Barbara, lucky you! Let's hope they are preserved as well.
Sharon, That is dreamy! We had one small stretch that was like that but just recently the trees have started being chopped. So very sad!
Hi Frank and Sharon. We have similar trees here in Tampa Bay though perhaps not for miles and miles like that but that picture is amazing.
