What is the definition of discounting a commission? By law they are negotiable. If a company adopts a policy that they charge 5%, then by definition it isn't discounted.

Steve charges 7%, if your company doesn't let you set your own commission, and you don't like that - you might consider a brokerage that does... but I'm not an agent :-) my advice isn't worth much...

Steve's principle to take away from the video is to set yourself in the premier position in the marketplace, so you don't have to haggle or cut your commission to get listings. Clients want advertising and marketing and they will pay for it. That was his point I believe.

Thank you for your comment :-)

In my eyes that actually makes it worth more ;)

He states "clients want advertising" to justify taking an additional $500 from the seller on top of his 7% commission. I think it is gouging the consumer. He charges the fee because he knows the advertising is what will sell the property, so his attitude is "if you want it, pay for it".  I think if consumers saw his video before they called him, fewer would call him.

Interesting point!

I've learned that Steve is a blunt, straight-forward guy.  SteveSystem.com has actually helped clients get to know his side better, I've heard feedback that they enjoy the videos.  It's all very intriguing to learn all of this from my perspective.

He has no shortage of calls, and his business is up while many agents in the same area are down, clients are coming to him for the advertising. Clients want their house sold and it seems they are paying for it to be!

It's hard to argue with the facts, and Steve has a lot of them to back it up :-)

The firm attitude towards not discounting is good for the top agents. I don't like the arrogance however that I have 100 listings AND I DON'T NEED YOURS! What a turnoff.

Thanks Gary - Steve definitely has an upfront and blunt style that his clients have come to enjoy!

Very interesting point indeed, I had to watch the video again to have my personal take on it :-)

Dane Maxwell hopefully, you are still on Active Rain.  There's a company here that started brand new with a 50Million investment that is advertising full page newspaper ads with a 2% selling commission and giving their 3% buyer commission over to the buyer.  Agents are on a salary.

The time for the "discount" versus "traditional" commission has come and gone.  The new words I see from consumer posts all over the web are "reasonable" and "exorbitant".
