Metairie Rotary Club

I joined the Metairie Rotary Club about six months ago thinking that this was just another networking club. It does provide some networking, but the true purpose is to give back to the community. I'm a real estate appraiser and I've met bankers and investors that I know share the same belief that you should give back to your community.

One of the greatest things that I witnessed about a month ago was the annual scholarship luncheon. At the luncheon each recipient gave a short speech about how the scholarship money was going to help them for college expenses. Talk about seeing where your money goes. I know Rotary International has just about eradicated polio in the world by there's nothing like seeing the recipient of your fundraises first hand.

Three times a month a member of the business community comes and speaks at the meetings. Some of these speeches are informative and educational. If you would like to make a difference in you community we meet every Thursday at 12:15-1:30 at the Quality Inn on Causeway Blvd in Metairie.

Some clubs require you to be sponsored by a fellow Rotarian. My club excepts walk-ins after the board reviews your application for membership. To find your local club go to this link:

Richard,

Welcome to Rotary!  I've been a member in the Plano West Rotary(suburb of Dallas) for 3 years now.  I've really enjoyed it.  You should join the ActiveRain Rotarians.  http://activerain.com/groups/rotarians

Richard, Welcome to Rotary and this AR group.  My husband and I have found our participation in Rotary to be very rewarding personally.  We each belong to different clubs on purpose and we have developed many great friends who share our "Service Above Self" attitude, Karen
