GPS LOSING CHARGE IN CAR? AND YOUR PHONE PLUG-IN NOT WORKING ALSO?

HOW IS THIS FOR A FREEBIE FROM STEVE MOORE CHEVROLET IN CHARLOTTE, NC - My phone, my GPS and everything I plugged into the 12v CIG LIGHTER WOULDN'T WORK AND TRULY ALL 3 PORTS HAVE GONE BAD ON THE CAR AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME, ARRRRRRGH......so I wheeled into the Chevrolet dealership and he asked to see the plug on the end of the GPS.  It seems the side metal pieces on the plug-in that pushes into the port were bent flat.  He kindly gave me a free little lesson and a few words of encouragement.  "Go home and get your metal fingernail file and raise the side metal pieces so they will connect to the inside connection in the port (they are the negative connection for battery charge and make sure it's pushed all the way into the cigarette lighter port (the tip is the positive charge).  If it doesn't work pull it out straight, turn a quarter of turn and push back in to port.  He said notoriously we take it and turn it while in the port and it flattenes the side connections.  HOW SIMPLE AND NOW IT WORKS.  GUESS THAT'S WHY I KEEP BUYING NEW PLUGS FOR MY PHONE TOO.......HOPE THIS HELPS......It's not the 12V in the lighter connection, it's your usage of the plug-in AND REALLY I thought those little side metal pieces on the plug were to hold it in the port tightly.
