Your blog has pictures -- BUT WHERE IS THE TITLE AND DESCRIPTION? You need them for Google Juice.

I see your nice blog with the pretty pictures. But when I scroll over the pictures there is no pop up showing a title and description. People have no clue about the picture. Where was it taken? What is it a picture of specifically? Go ahead, scroll over the picture below and see that there is no pop up title and description.

I am no SEO expert. But one of the many things that I have learned here in Active Rain is that content is KING. Pictures and videos get noticed by the search engines. Pictures and videos with a title and description get noticed more than plain text. If you are posting a picture of a local home, add a description. Bring traffic to your post. Now scroll over the picture below and see the title and description.

Home for sale in Garden City, MI

If your picture is of a local scene, put the city, state, neighborhood, put SOMETHING, in the title and description. If you have a reader looking at your post not knowing exactly where the picture was taken, let them know with a title and description.

If you have multiple pictures of the same house, you could use the same description. If you have a variety of pictures, use a different title and description for each one.

You should be writing local posts. Write about local events and businesses. The more you write locally, the more you look like the local expert.

If this post got you thinking about your previous posts, you can go back and edit one or two and add the title and description.

Craig,

Great point; We seize the opportunity to title and describe photos. I'm always thinking of ways to maximize the value of photo titles.

Best,

Steve

If it is a local photo I took I add description and title.  If it is a stock photo I purchased I do not.

Hi Craig,

I am not an SEO expert either, but you have made a good point about labeling your photos. Do you know you can also put a link in your photo? Even more Google juice ;-)

Shannon, when you have a picture that needs a title and description, think about what someone would be entering in a search phrase. You could enter an address, city, neighborhood or business name.

Jane, glad it helped.

Connie, the opportunity is there to label the pictures. Take advantage of it.

Christina, some of us need a nudge and some of us need a push. A push got me started blogging.

Terri, I'll drink Google juice any day.

Steve, glad to see you taking advantage in your pictures.

Norma, I hadn't considered that. Thanks for the tip. I try to keep my camera handy for my own photos.

Laura, yes, it helps to keep the texts similar.

Rob, you can start with your next blog or go back and edit a few of your old blogs.

Andrew, it's a stop worth making. LABEL, LABEL, LABEL

Samantha, glad to hear that you are already adding something. it helps get the SEO engines going.

Wallace, I didn't do it for my first few posts. Then I learned it here in Active Rain. I still see blog posts with pictures and no title or description. I hope more people will realize the benefits and start labeling.

John, I haven't considered a link in a picture, but if it works for you, keep doing it. That's better than nothing at all.

Wade, glad to see you are using pictures. It's not too late to change it. Go to your blog. Click on the title heading. Click the edit button at the bottom and edit away. If you are not sure how to edit the picture you have already posted, look at the newbie tips #5 inserting pictures into your blog.

Mary, if you are new to blogging, check out newbie tips to see it will get you going in the right direction.

Travis, the search engines will pick up on the title/description. A picture without them, will be missed.

Richard, As you go back and edit, DON"T put them into "Draft" mode and then publish again. You will change the original posting date and may lose some of the points for the post. I have changed this from "Members only" to "Public" so that you can re-blog it.
