What Christina Aguilera Taught Me About My Real Estate Career

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

So by now, you know Christina Aguilera missed a line from the National Anthem (that line was: “O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming”) and as the Washington Post said this morning:

when you’re hired to belt out “The Star Spangled Banner” at the biggest television event of the year, it’s probably best to know the words.

So here’s what I learned from the massacre of the song:

1. When you’re hired to perform a specific act – it’s critical you prepare to be the best at it.
For me, selling a house means looking up recent sales and comparable houses, suggesting the best fix-ups and touches to make your property more competitive than your neighbors, and suggesting an accurate starting price. From hitting the market to contract negotiations, to the closing table – know what’s expected and prepare you!

2. Be who you are.
I’m not sure what her stylist was thinking, but a business suit? To sing the National Anthem? And you’re a pop star/rocker chick? The look wasn’t right. As a client, you’ll probably spend a lot of time talking to me and/or seeing me – so chances are you’ll get to know me a little, as a person and not just your Realtor. I am just me, I do what I promise and don’t pretend to be something or someone else. Everyone has their own style and so far, mine has been working for me!

3. It’s not about me, it’s about you.
So every rendition of the song is different, especially when you have pop stars singing it. But the point is to honor America by singing the song, not really to show off your lyrics talents (or lack thereof). Do the song right….just like a real estate transaction is about you, your needs, your plans. I’m just here to help you get there faster and with less stress.
