What’s Your Story - The Real One?

Today I’m going to challenge you to find your real voice, the real you, not the word smithed you.    Too often businesses are inconsistent with Voicethe message that they put out.  The website says one thing, Facebook says another and Linked In, yet another.

We all struggle with what to say about ourselves in our profiles.  Should it be professional or real.  Should it be written for the reader or the search engines?

Social Media is about being real!  Tell your story, the one you really don’t want to tell.  It’s that story that will make people connect with you.  It’s that story that will be your irresistible difference.  The one that touches people and makes you feel real to them.  The one that tells them that you and only you understand what they are going through!  Yes, it still needs to be professional, but make it human.

Take the next 30 minutes and write out your story!

Answer the following questions:

1.  Why do you do what you do?
2.  How did you end up in this career?
3. Why are you interested in this “niche”?  (first time homebuyers, investment whatever it is?

Ready, Set, Go - 30 minutes!

Great advice.  If you write like you speak, it will come out automatically - the story and then tone.

This is great idea.  Everyone has such a unique story to tell and we would be surprised at some of them.

Kate, this may be the push I need to do this with my AR profile.  Can you come back and hassle me if I don't have it done by Monday?  This is hard for me to do!  ^_~

I'd have to spend more than 30 minutes just finding all the sites where I have a profile!  Good tip though, and something to think about.

Good series - We need to stay focused and carefully construct our online profiles.  I see too many professionals with outdated or incomplete online profiles that don't tell their full story.
