NECAP Results Are In. Can We Chill Now??

The NECAP test results are in, and have been published by the VT Department of Education.  We can slice and carve up these numbers any way we want.

But it's my blog, so I'm doing it my way.

Here are the percentage of 11th graders who scored at least "proficient" in reading.

Montpelier HS:  79%

U32 HS:  73%

Spaulding HS:  68%

Statewide:  72%

So, Montpelier's kids read a little better than the state average, U32's are about average, and Spaulding's are a little lower than average.  But all just a little.

I'm doing a little axe grinding here because I'm tired of hearing people telling me that the schools in Barre aren't very good.  I look at these numbers and you know what I see?  Just about the same as U32 and Montpelier.

I live in the U32 district.  We bought our house because we liked the house, and we had heard good things about Rumney Elementary and about U32.  All I'm saying is that there are good things to be heard about Spaulding too.  So stop beating up on it.  Nothing against any of the other area schools, I just think that Spaulding is getting some bad PR.

Help me out, readers.  What do you like best about Barre?  What do you like best about Spaulding High School?  Tell me some success stories.  I'll publish what you share, and we'll see if we can't turn the tide.
