Touches,  Trigger Points and Transactions - The Real Power of Social Media

It’s estimated that someone needs to see your message as many as 30 times before they internalize your business.  This means that someone needs to be “touched” by your marketing anywhere from 7 - 30 times before they will buy.

What are Touches, Trigger Points and Transactions?

Touches are simply the number of times that a potential client sees your marketing message.

TriggerTrigger Points are events that move someone from the “shopper” status to the “buyer” status.  A trigger point is what provides the “need” to buy.

No amount of marketing will make someone buy until a Trigger point puts them into a position where they need to buy?

Transaction is simply the sale.

So what does this have to do with Social Media Marketing?

The answer is everything?  Social Media Marketing give you the ability to “touch” your prospect with your marketing message and build a relationship with them.  By doing this, when the trigger point takes place, and the prospect becomes a buyer,  you will be able to leverage the relationship and turn it into a sale.

The “touch” strategy keeps you visible because you provide useful information to your customer.

As we wind down the planning process and begin to enter the actual implementation of the social media I encourage you to create a “touch” mindset in your marketing efforts.

Social Results Exercise:  Write down 30 ways that you can “touch” your client through social media.

1.  What kind of content will your provide that will deepen the relationship?
2.  Social media touches can link back to your Blog, website or other websites.  Is there something that can add value so that they remember you when the trigger point happens?

I had never heard the term Trigger Point when talking about a real estate buyer's process but it does apply and I like it, thanks for the new vocabulary in my repertoire!  Your blog is a good reminder to us about being consistent and persistent with our marketing.  Good stuff!

A good consistent combination of Facebook, twitter, Linkedin and blogging goes a long way.

Richard, a trigger point in Real Estate coulc be a new baby, a divorce, a marraige, even a death, job relocation.  These are even "niches" that could be blogged about addressed in your social media marketing.

Dave, absolutely.  That said, it's just as important to make sure the message is consistent across platforms.

Aaah, the trigger point.  Nice to know it has a name!  I, too, have always felt that I can't make someone buy or sell but the trick is being there when they're ready.  I think being the one they think of to help them is a major hurdle I hope to overcome - starting right here with blogging on AR, of course!

Brenda, it is interesting to recognize the process.  Go beyond Active Rain, include other platforms too.

Kate, going backwards in this series. This is a perfect thing - we at KW learn how 8x8 and 33 touches work and you have more or less similar theory with Social Media as the medium. Cool. Real Cool. Thanks for sharing.
